The First AP Poll is out. I bolded ACC and Florida teams.

Preseason AP Poll
First-place votes in parentheses

1. Alabama (42)

2. Clemson (18)

3. Georgia

4. Wisconsin (1)

5. Ohio State

6. Washington

7. Oklahoma

8. Miami

9. Auburn

10. Penn State

11. Michigan State

12. Notre Dame

13. Stanford

14. Michigan

15. Southern California

16. TCU

17. West Virginia

18. Mississippi State

19. Florida State

20. Virginia Tech

21. Central Florida

22. Boise State

23. Texas

24. Oregon

25. LSU

Others receiving votes:South Carolina 96, Florida 68, Utah 60, Oklahoma St. 51, FAU 38, Arizona 28, NC State 22, Texas A&M 21, Boston College 18, Northwestern 13, Kansas St. 10, Iowa St. 8, Houston 6, Memphis 3, Troy 2, Iowa 2, Kentucky 1, Arkansas St. 1, Fresno St. 1.

Interesting that Wisconsin is the one team not named Clemson or Bama to garner a first place vote. The Badgers are both loaded and experienced, but their schedule is much harder this year with road trips to Big Ten East powers Michigan and Penn State on the docket.

I wouldn't rank NC state so low. They will supposedly have a better offense than we do

I'm relieved to see we play in Gunsville for a second straight season. We never lose down there.

It’s not really low, we have a pretty tough schedule this year. I look at it as 6 pretty tough games (Clemson through at NC State) and 6 pretty weak games (Florida through Samford). And I was tempted to move Syracuse ahead of Florida as I like their QB and think their O will be pretty decent but I’ll wait and see how they do in their first couple of games.

Due solely to their cupcake schedule, I honestly think they'll probably win at least 8 games despite not being very good.

Exactly.

I think they’re criznap but realistically who are they going to lose to? FSU, Jawja and Miss State are guaranteed losses, but other than that it’s just some toss ups to LSU and South Cackalacky and then the rest is total garbage. They can be worse than last year and still skate to 7 wins.

Mizzou's not a sure thing either. Drew Lock is an outstanding QB leading a prolific offense, and the Tigers have given the crocs fits since joining the SEC Least.

Part I am really struggling with is Louisville being lower than UF. I get it Jackson is gone, but Petrino is no slouch. Guess we will see if they have rebounded based on how they play against Alabama. In week 1!!!! Its almost time. Its not like UF was loaded with stars that returned to give them a bump.

Cant poke many holes in the rest of the list except Miami and ND. I expect Miami to win a head to head.

If you are looking for some reasons to set higher expectations:

1) The team loves their coaches and have been looking real good and practicing real hard.
2) This 7-6 team last year was every bit as good as Alabama on Labor day. We imploded a bit on special teams ..and then Frenchy got hurt... and THEN Jimbo got distracted...
There is plenty of elite talent on this team.

Sorry we were not every bit as good. I like this team and Taggart but we were not equal to Alabama or Clemson.

We belong in the same stadium but not as good. Otherwise we'd have made more plays; too many guys doing their own thing. They may have had physical talent but that's not everything.

At best we were a 10-2 team last year; this year we lose some key pieces and have a tougher schedule.

Don’t let the final scores fool you, we were completely in both games. In fact, watching the game in person for the Alabam game, I honestly felt like we were better team at halftime despite trailing by 3. We had special teams and turnover nightmare for 10 minutes that blew that game. Bama had like 20 more yards offense.

And AT Clemson, we had the ball with 6 minutes left in fourth quarter down 3...

Those two games give me hope and are also a damning indictment on how the coaches could not get them better than 6-6.

So Jimbo Fisher and aTm are getting ready to be blown up by a disgruntled former player allegedly giving details about payoffs.

We shall see.

(Schadenfreude growing)

Here is what I found > https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...r-player-eligibility-jimbo-fisher/1052434002/

The allegations are great if proven (unlikely), because it would provide a possible basis for firing Jimbo and voiding his contract.

On the downside, it wouldn't take long for the NCAA to start sniffing around FSU.

Quite funny, but it underscores my belief it's a foregone conclusion Alabama and Clemson will meet for the championship and that there's a huge drop-off after those two.
I think Ohio state is legit and if the young QB is good USC has talent to compete.

I like Washington to make the Playoff...They're talented & experienced, well-coached, and have a manageable schedule. After that, I was going to pick tOSU, but now I'm skeptical as to whether the Buckeyes can successfully navigate the toughest division/conference in college football given all the distractions.
