Apparently No One Is Still Getting Up For "Get Up"

Mike and Mike was the highest rated show because ESPN mandated that any station that used the ESPN call letters, had to run the show. In the DC market it was ESPN 980 which ran local programming so they needed a sister station to run M&M in the market.

No more call letters. Only ESPN on nights on weekends.

Another salary that isn’t bringing any results is payin Katie Nolan over a million a year.

I'm surprised more of you guys don't like the Dan Le batard Show, then. I think that show hits the perfect amount of sports and fun with some real thought-provoking discussion added in, all while not taking themselves too seriously. I probably don't agree with 75% of Le batard's political views, but I do appreciate the way he presents anything "controversial" and they don't beat topics to death.

Le batard is a bit too much for me and comes across as obnoxious more than enjoyable. He's kind of like Jim Rome was back in the day. You either loved his show or hated it. I can take Le Batard in small doses for like 30 minutes, but anything more than that is too much. I did really enjoy Stugatz segments when he would come onto Mike and Mike.

I’m sure I’ll get ripped for this, but I’d love to see someone like Charles Barkley on Get Up. That guys funny and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. He also doesn’t take sports so seriously.
I agree here.

Frankly I'd take the entire TNT NBA staff over the dry, dower, sad faces they have on "Get Up" and most of their other shows.

The more I analyze it, the primary issue is Beadle and Rose. I'm happy to see them trying to go with diversity as I think that's important, but they're both ok as analysts, but they don't have charisma. Especially Rose. I pretty much lose interest any time he opens his mouth. I think Booger McFarland would have been a much better choice than Rose. Beadle is a fantastic columnist (Aside from her moral highground she sometimes tries to lecture from) but she's just boring to listen talk. I'd have probably gone with Jemelle Hill instead. She has charisma and her and Greenie have always played off of each other well.

I am pretty loyal to the Dan Patrick Show int he morning. To me it's the best thing going in sports. Le Betard would be second. I haven't watched a full hour of SportsCenter in a loooong time (morning or evening).

I can agree on all points.

Ugh. On Golic and Wingo this morning, they were playing Justin Bieber coming back from commercial in honor of Winnipeg winning and making it to the conference finals last night. Mike Sr. asked who everyone thought of first when Canadian artists are mentioned, and he himself said Geddie Lee & Rush.

Between the three of them, they then began to list Canadian artists such as Drake, The Weeknd, Celine Dion, and Shania Twain with Golic Jr. insisting Bieber was the ultimate. I told my ol' lady that this is preposterous coming from grown up men ("
Jr. sounds like a twelve year-old girl.")...No mention at all of Neil Young or my personal North-of-the-border favorite Arcade Fire, for instance. To his credit, Mike Sr. did at least throw in Gordon Lightfoot toward the end of the discussion.

No Loverboy? Saga? Honeymoon Suite? Corey Hart? Aldo Nova? Bryan freakin' Adams? Bachman Turner Overdrive? Alannis Morissette? Preposterous indeed.

Someone did say Bryan Adams, actually.

I'm not even sure why they are giving her an expanded role on NBA Countdown, especially considering they extended her contract to do it. I'm guessing to get her off "Get Up" they needed to make some sort of concession, otherwise they would be on the hook for her ridiculously high contract.

They need to just bite the bullet and admit a mistake was made and move on from that show.
The idea of an ESPN morning how isn't horrible and the studio/set is decent.

It's the cast that is awful. Three boring people with generally dour demeanors, which is fine in life but makes no sense for a morning show on an entertainment network.

There are a number of sportscenter anchors, male and female, black, white, latino. and asian, who'd be better, more naturally upbeat hosts of the program.

IMO they messed up on a) boring hosts and b) picking 3 opinion commentators rather than 2 news broadcasters who occasionally brought in 1-2 subject matter experts.

They followed the CNN/foxnews model of talking heads and staged disagreement rather than their own, successful model of sportscasters with a light/airy sense of humor. They confused themselves into thinking they were a serious "news" channel rather than an entertainment news network that gets serious when it makes sense.

ESPN made a mistake thinking Greenie could be the prime draw for any show.

At least ESPN is paying attention a little bit, though they say they are committed to the show. They need to simply cut their losses.

On a good note, and not trying to hijack the thread, Jemele Hill has been bought out of her contract and is leaving ESPN.

I believe that they also pitted their viewers against one another by putting Mike Golic with Trey Wingo on a new show in direct competition. That, to me, made and makes zero sense.

The house of the mouse will figure this out. Disney simply does not let failure of this sort go lightly. They will figure it out. I'm surprised the Avengers haven't been giving us a talk show to be honest.

On Thursday, Beadle caught flak for stating on air that she doesn't watch football anymore while discussing Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer's suspension and the situation's handling by the program.

Here's your answer. ESPN's morality will only go so far.

New head honcho has taken a tact of subservience when it comes to their "partners" so it's unlikely you see any significantly critical thought or reporting about any major sports from their now neutered former-journalists and commentators.

They don't compete directly. ESPN2 only shows Golic and Wingo for an hour in the morning, before Get Up airs. If I had a choice, I'd 100% listen to Golic and Wingo on the radio instead of watching GetUp on TV.

They're competing in that viewers/listeners of Mike & Mike are forced to make a choice as you have.

Her “I don’t watch football” comments was a preemptive move to give off the appearance that ESPN was moving her because of what she said. She was moved because ratings were putrid.

They do compete directly...each airs versus one another for entire "Get Up" running..G&W airs on ESPN News from 7 to 10

Golic is howling at Greenie's failure. Golic was outspoken as to not understanding why their show broke up.

Greenie is a geek and without Golic to play the regular Joe his schtick doesnt work. He's boring and becomes Dan Rather without funny people around him.
