Apparently No One Is Still Getting Up For "Get Up"

ESPN made a mistake thinking Greenie could be the prime draw for any show.

At least ESPN is paying attention a little bit, though they say they are committed to the show. They need to simply cut their losses.

On a good note, and not trying to hijack the thread, Jemele Hill has been bought out of her contract and is leaving ESPN.
I'm not convinced that was a good note. Jemelle was one of my favorite commentators although I do think they took it too far trying to give them the sportscenter show. I do think there's a place for people of color with their own opinions to have a show there. His and Hers was really, really good.

The problem with Get Up isn't necessarily Mike, although he can't carry a show by himself. He needs a comedic relief to play off of otherwise it's boring and ESPN didn't realize that and stuck him with two hosts who just seem grumpy all the time. Beadle is a good writer, but she's a terrible host. She has zero personality, and the I'm always mad attitude simply gets really old after a while.

If they don't want to put the Mike's back together I'd honestly like to see what that show would be like with Mike and Stugotz playing off of each other although doing so doesn't give them the diversity they would want. I don't know who on their roster right now would be the best for bringing in minority voices. I don't think he'd be willing to come back but I'd love to see Mike, Stugotz, and Chris Carter together. I think that could be interesting.

I get that people have favorites. I don't really notice the color of the ESPN talent. I disliked watching Hill because 1) she was always angry, 2) many of her opinions had little to do with sports, 3) she seemed to think her opinion was the only one that mattered.

As someone who had not read through the whole thread, how is the show doing?

I saw a lot of joy in her conversations, very little anger, although she did point out the problems and injustice. I felt it was a needed voice amongst the multitude who normally ignore those things.

I haven't watched her in over a year mostly due to cutting ESPN out of my life. I agree she wasn't angry all the time, but consider how many times she DID get herself worked up over a social topic (this is ESPN, not The View) and had nothing to do with sports (or only because an athlete was involved). She likely has a future in journalism tied with social issues etc. She may love sports and ended up at ESPN for that reason, but is likely better off elsewhere. I don't necessarily disagree with her positions but do disagree with the venue. I bet there was a lot of boardroom discussions on her.

The "E" in ESPN stands for entertainment. People clearly do not find Get Up entertaining. It seems that bland discussions and politics on a "sports channel" are real turn offs. I feel the original cable tv model is on the way out. It had a really good run and may have a place like radio moving forward. Unless there is some transforming moment for TV I feel like, not just Get UP, will be toast.

Nope, Finance was right. She sucked.

Four pages is three pages too long for me to see if I'm the first one to post this regarding a thread about "Get Up". Apologies if a retread. Bootsy Collins on bass, baby.

And for the record, ESPN in general is unwatchable dreck and has been for a LONG time. I long for the days of Olbermann and Dan Patrick when they were originally on. That was borderline art in my opinion. Getting people to schedule their evenings around sports rerun highlights every evening?

Unbelievable chemistry between the two. Like I said......borderline art.
