Braves 2018

The Braves start a 4 game series today with a day/night doubleheader at home against the Marlins. Last thing they need to do is relax. With the Phillies hosting the Red Sox and the Nationals at St. Louis, there might be a chance to establish a bit of a lead in the East.

The Braves did what they needed to do last night in the sweep. Acuna is growing up very quickly before our eyes.

Acuna leads off both games of twin bill with HRs

  • ATLANTA -- Ronald Acuna Jr. is too young to have a gained a strong memory of Rickey Henderson's playing days. But the Braves phenom has spent the past few days doing his best impersonation of Henderson as a leadoff hitter.

After drilling a leadoff homer in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Marlins, Acuna smashed Merandy Gonzalez's first pitch of the second game over the center-field wall. The 20-year-old Braves phenom became just the fourth player in Major League history to begin both ends of a twin bill with a home run.

Very few come into the league with as much expectations as Acuna and I'm not sure if anyone has exceeded them like he is currently doing.

What a year for the Braves!

What you need to know about Acuna's HR streak
Rookie has leadoff dingers in 3 straight games, homers in 5 in a row and 7 of 8

Ronald Acuna Jr. made history Tuesday night by homering in his fifth consecutive game, with three of his six home runs in that span coming as the first batter of the contest for the Braves. The 20-year-old phenom launched the first pitch he saw from Marlins right-hander Trevor Richards well beyond the wall in left field at SunTrust Park for his 18th of the season, and followed that up with yet another homer in the seventh, an opposite-field, three-run shot off left-hander Adam Conley.

In what is shaping up to be a tight National League Rookie of the Year race, Acuna is strengthening his candidacy by the day, and helping keep the Braves atop a tight NL East. In the process, he's joining some rarefied company.

Here's what you need to know about Acuna's historic performance:

Well, if that douche for Miami doesn't get a severe suspension and fine, I won't watch baseball any more. That was about as classless as Steve Spurrier.

Urena suspended 6 games for hitting Acuna

  • Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Urena has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally hitting Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves with a pitch in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday night's game at SunTrust Park in Atlanta. Joe Torre, Chief Baseball Officer for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Unless appealed, Urena's suspension is scheduled to begin tomorrow, when the Marlins are to play the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. If he elects to appeal, then the discipline issued to Urena will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

In addition, Braves first base coach Eric Young has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his actions during the incident. Young's suspension will be served tonight, when the Braves are scheduled to host the Colorado Rockies.

I hope he has a lengthy appeals process (if he appeals) so that he still gets to bat against Atlanta in the next Braves/Marlins series the weekend after this.

24-4 Mets now. It'll be nice going into tonight's game knowing that the Braves can't lose ground.

brach comes in in the ninth ... error, walk, a single and a double, and three runs later a one run lead becomes a two run deficit.

What does Duvall bring to the lineup? He was hitting at a .205 when acquired and is now ar .197.

Do not know what to make of this team ... just when it looked like this team was catching fire the bats go dead and the pitching falls apart. Think it will be a struggle to make the playoffs and, if they do, I don’t expect to get very far.

I don't think there's a bigger "in the moment poster" on Warchant.
