Baseball Braves 2023

If Strider can avoid serious injury over the years, he's got HOF and other honors ahead of him.
He's definitely hit his stride 😏...BUT I'm not sure if he's going to continue to be a dominant starter long-term with basically just two pitches. I think he's more classically suited to be a HOF-caliber closer. However if Strider can develop his changeup to the point where it becomes a regularly reliable pitch, perhaps I'll no longer be skeptical.

Once again, GOD BLESS EDDIE ROSARIO!!!!

Unbelievable!
What a massive win! This game felt like a loss all night until Eddie slugged his two-run two out homer in the 8th to give the Braves their first lead of the evening.

Both the fillies and (more importantly at this point) dodgers had won earlier. An Atlanta L would have really soured the rest of my Saturday evening. Fried's on the bump tomorrow going for the sweep! 🧹

EDIT: The Orioles won as well. It would have been an unmitigated disaster tonight if Atlanta hadn't come back to win.

I try not to curse on Sundays, but alas I think I did Carlin's "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television" routine.

My wife says I’m a polly Anna but I say win 2 out of every 3 from here on out and we’re World Series Champions. Having said that, Yates scares me in key situations. The only thing that could derail this run is the bullpen.

From the AJC:

[The Braves] lead the National League in ERA. Their relievers' ERA is the NL's best. Their starters' is second-best, and that's with 15 different pitchers making a start. The 2022 Braves needed 12 starters to negotiate a full season; the 2021 and 2019 teams each needed 11; the 2018 club deployed 13.

Yonny Chirinos has made five starts as a Brave; his ERA over those five is 9.27. The Braves have won four of his five starts. They've scored 42 runs when Chirinos pitches – an average of 8.4 per game. Their seasonal average is 5.8 runs. These hitters tend to rise to the moment.

Let's face it, though: This team – hitters and pitchers – hasn't known many sour moments. (Losing a series in Oakland was one, but that was in May.) They've turned Truist Park into a fortress. They've won 28 of their past 35 home games. That's a winning percentage of .800. That's insane.

They've turned Truist Park into a fortress.
The fortress was breached tonight by the lowly mets. If the Braves want to guarantee home field throughout the postseason, they better start marching the intensity of the dodgers and orioles.

They still have the best record in baseball and have the third best record for the month of August. It's a 162 game season. You're not winning them all.

According to AJC's Mark Bradley, Chirinos has been put on IL. When Snitker was asked if he would pitch for Atlanta again this year, Snitker replied, "well, you don't know." ...

Since Ralph Garr has been mentioned..here’s a story.

My Dad took me to my first Braves game in July of 72. Rick Reed on the bump for Atlanta vs Juan Marichal and the Giants.

Weather became a problem and the Umps stopped play. My Dad and I were at the Right Field rail and as the Road Runner was leaving the field, he struck up a conversation with us. Made a huge impression on me.

Fast forward 40 years or so. I discovered an article on Garr and somehow was able to dig up his address. Sent him a note on my letterhead to thank him for a kind gesture toward me when I was a wild eyed youngster. Mailed it and thought nothing more about it.

Two weeks later my office phone rang. It was Ralph. We had a great conversation. A baseball memory came full circle.

That's a really cool story. Thanks for sharing it!
