Football Mike Norvell wants commits to be a spark in program amongst coaching changes

There is just over three weeks until the early signing window and with staff changes happening and likely more coming, Mike Norvell had a specific message for his current commit and future Florida State recruits during the time of change.

Story Link: Mike Norvell wants commits and future recruits to be a spark

Football Mike Norvell open to all things as FSU coordinator hiring processes begins

From hiring an offensive coordinator who would bring their own offense and call plays to hiring coaches he's less familiar with if they are the right fit, Mike Norvell says everything is on the table as he begins the critical process of hiring his next two FSU coordinators.

Football Column: Mike Norvell keeps coaching to the team he wants, not the one he has

In his first four seasons at FSU, Mike Norvell has been praised for coaching and running his program the same way every day regardless of results.

Last night's end-of-half debacle which set up another lopsided loss is more proof he needs to be open to change and able to coach to the team he has, not the team he wants.

My column on FSU-Notre Dame:

Official bring back Jimbo campaign

Time to let the past go and heal the wounds. It’s FSUs best option. When Norvell told his team it was ok to lay down after the snub, he forever imprinted a loser culture.

Let’s get jimbo back and recruit some real high school talent. With his divorce well behind him he can turn this thing around for FSU.

Remember his record against Miami and Florida by the way. Best of any FSU coach.

FSU volleyball defeats NC State

FSU sports information:

The No. 24 Florida State volleyball team (18-6, 10-4) demonstrated determination and skill in a hard-fought four-set victory (26-24, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23) over the NC State Wolfpack (12-10, 7-7) at home on Sunday afternoon. This win marks FSU's 10th conference victory of the season and improved to 38-3 over NC State since 2000.

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams exchanging points early on. Florida State gained an early advantage with a 5-1 run to take a 10-6 lead, but the Wolfpack quickly closed the gap, rallying to tie the score at 16. The Seminoles answered with a 3-0 run, putting them ahead 19-16, but NC State fought back, tying the score again at 21. The teams went back and forth until Khori Louis and Taylor Head combined for the block to give the Noles a 26-24 win in the first set. .

Riding the momentum from their set-one win, the Seminoles came out strong in the second set, jumping to an early 12-6 lead. FSU continued to dominate and used a balanced and efficient offensive attack to run away with the set 25-16.

NC State found their rhythm in the third set, but the Seminoles continued to put up a strong battle. The set remained close, with neither team leading by more than three points until the Wolfpack went on a decisive 7-1 run, ultimately taking the set 25-19.

The back-and-forth pattern continued in the fourth set with both teams exchanging points in the early plays. The lead constantly shifted, with neither team able to pull away. With the set tied at 23, Iane Henke put down a kill to give the Noles match point then combined with Kelsey Perry for the block to end the match.

Audrey Koenig continued to shine with 12 kills and 10 digs to extend her double digit kill streak to 21 matches. Head was very impressive with 12 kills and 22 digs to earn her sixth double double in her last 10 matches. Emery Dupes and Kyleene Filimaua each recorded 10 digs for the Noles as well

The Noles will now head to Pittsburgh to take on the No. 1 Pitt Panthers on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.

FHSAA - Snub Part 2

My son's high school football team was left out of the playoffs for a team who they beat head to head (on 11-07-2024) and had a better overall record. The only conclusion I can make is The Villages is hosting State Finals and this is the reward for doing so.

@AstronautFB beat the village’s head to head 21-20 / District Runner-up - Astronaut 1-1 / The Village’s 0-2 / Ranked ahead of them in the rankings prior to the game.

Feel horrible for these boys. If anyone knows anyone at FHSAA please help.

Soccer FSU to face UNC in ACC Tournament championship game

FSU sports information:

The No. 6 Florida State soccer team will battle No. 8 North Carolina in the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship game at WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles will look to claim a fifth straight ACC Tournament title.

ESPNU will televise the game at noon.

FSU has been the most successful team in the past decade at the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles have claimed nine of the last 11 titles and won the last four championships. FSU is also unbeaten in its last 11 ACC Tournament games and reached the final round for a fifth straight season. The Seminoles have claimed the conference title in all 10 previous championship matches.

Florida State and North Carolina will meet for a second time this season after their 50th matchup resulted in multi-goal performances from Jordynn Dudley and freshman Solai Washington to claim a 4-2 home victory on senior night. FSU and UNC square off in the championship game for the tenth time since 2001 and fifth meeting in the past decade. The Seminoles have defeated the Tar Heels in the last four matchups for the conference title (2016, 2018, 2020, 2022).

FSU is currently averaging nearly three goals a game in the seven-game winning streak. The Seminoles scored 29 goals in ACC play, one shy of the second most in program history.

Taylor Huff leads the squad in all scoring categories with 11 goals and nine assists for 31 total points. She scored the opening goal in the ACC semifinal match against No. 3 Wake Forest and recorded her 100th career point. The senior became the fastest to reach 20+ points in the past five seasons and has already eclipsed her point tally from last season in six fewer games. Huff ranks among the conference’s best in points, goals, assists, shots on goal, and total shots. Huff was named to the All-ACC First Team this season and has claimed four all-conference team honors in her four seasons.

Jordynn Dudley has continued to deliver offensive brilliance in her sophomore season. The reigning national freshman of the year has registered 20 points off six goals and eight assists in just 12 games played. Dudley is averaging just under two points per game and leads the reigning champions in points scored in conference play. She also scored multiple goals for the United States to record a bronze medal at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup through the early stretch of the collegiate season.

The Seminole defense has held firm after losing several key defensive pieces to professional soccer. The backline has held nine shutouts throughout the season and has scored 12 goals with Kameron Simmonds and Mimi Van Zanten each scoring four goals.

Redshirt freshman Addie Todd emerged as the hero in the penalty shootout victory over No. 3 Wake Forest. Todd made several impressive stops in regulation before making back-to-back saves to send FSU to the title game. The keeper has made over 40 saves between the sticks and 25 stops in ACC play, one shy of Cristina Roque’s record in 2022.

The freshman class has performed brightly with a combined 63 total points, 21 goals and 21 assists. This marks the most freshmen goal contributions in the past five seasons across all three metrics. Wrianna Hudson leads the class with seven goals and five assists. Four of the six freshmen field players have contributed double-digit points inside 15 games.
