Does FSU also lead nation in “defensive turnovers”

I say a “defensive turnover“ occurs when the defense stops the opposing offense but there is no change of possession due to a foolish defensive penalty, such as targeting by FSU that prevents an interception (Jax State), pass interference by FSU on third down that prevents a punt (Jax State), ruffing the kicker by FSU on a punt (WF), or a late hit out of bounds by FSU on third down after preventing a third down conversion (WF). Let’s be kind and not count FSU running into the kicker since it did not result in a first down (ND). Should these be added to the 10 offensive turnovers to get a more realistic picture?

Five changes that I want to see happen

1. Jeff Purinton for AD. Make it happen, NOW. Alford stays in current role

2. New DC. Shannon for now. Decide between him, Glenn Schumann, Muschamp or any other high level, qualified DC

3. New OC. Perhaps Jeff Lebby, Kevin Johns, Chip Long, Graham Harrell, or someone that knows what the heck they are doing. Demote Dilly to co-DC or position coach.

4. Replace Ron Dugans. Move David Johnson to WR coach, or hire someone that is proven. Ron simply isn’t getting the job done, sadly.

5. Revert everything back to pre I.T (2014-2021 RIP). This needs to happen. We need to get back to our brand. It’s not this.

Make these things happen. I firmly believe our football program will be in a MUCH better place if we do these things.

How can we expect CMN to rebuild FSU? He hasn’t even BUILT (let alone REBUILT) ONE !!!

What FSU hired was a bright, young coach with NO EXPERIENCE to perform the job that WE expected of him; that being to REBUILD OUR FOOTBALL TEAM. In all fairness, CMV is a talented, young ELITE P5 OC who has now been placed in a position (HC), well ahead of his experiential capabilities. Would love to see the “job description” posted for our HC applicant. If that job description included “building and/or rebuilding,” who the hell on the hiring committee overlooked both P5 EXPERIENCE and SIGNIFICANT RECRUITING ROOTS IN FLORIDA?

Should have done everything possible to make Jimbo happy starting In 2012

Tell me that too 5 programs are willing to do this for too 5 coaches. Like elite qbs damn hard to come by and you don’t know what you have it’s gone. One of the complaints was the $$$ he wanted to spend to keep up with the CFB arms race. Do the math now would that have been a good investment if we had a relevant football program? For the university and community? Legitimately what is the timeline on relevancy now, the recruiting class if not already will be gone soon. Jimbo is right back to what we watched Jimbo do here at AM.

(9/21/21): Improvement contigent on offense, WR woes, depth chart shake-up

(2:00) Corey's nose is cancer-free!

(6:45) Norvell's Monday presser; problems but solutions not as specific

(10:00) It will get better soon -- does that mean the offense orrrr...

(17:00) Be the bamboo! But the criticism is to be expected

(23:00) QBs with differing skill sets has to make creating a gameplan inefficient, no?

(33:00) He's honest but a little worrisome that teams are catching them off guard so often

(36:00) Any implication WRs aren't good enough?

(53:00) Defensive depth chart shake up, what else can be done?

An Easy Win

If I was in our athletic department, I would think this the perfect time to approach Nike about our uniforms and brand. Think of the press release: “While we continue to strive to take our program back to our previous heights, we’re taking the first step with our partner, Nike. “Reignition Tradition” marks the return of our Championship look on the field. . .”
A winless ACC team stands a better chance of selling more old/new stuff than new/new stuff, and it takes the focus off of the actual product on the field for awhile.

It May Be Time

For Coach Norvell to discontinue player and Coach interviews and accessibility to both. Eliminate the clutter to make sure these young kids are not being distracted. He certainly doesn’t owe the media or fans the kind of accessibility that he has given so far. Check to see if Saban, Smart, Fisher and others grant the openness that he has given so far. I know that wouldn’t be popular but the job is to win not to facilitate those who sure as heck aren’t supporting presently. we need to provide all the encouragement possible instead of spewing negatives which doesn’t make any difference anyway. GO NOLES!

Groundhog Day Call for Patience

The thread title says it... "Ground Hog Day the Call for Patience"... Where have we heard this before? Oh yeah, that's right with our good buddy Willy T! I can't blame our fans on these boards for hearing this same refrain and quickly barfing next to their keyboards or smartphones. We kept hearing it from insiders, writers, and administration all during the Willy days. It was only afterwards that all of them admitted that something was totally wrong about our football programs state of affairs. However, in this case from an observer I think the calls for patience are in fact warranted. I think that because of a couple of things.

1) Norvell has been successful in previous spots. He wasn't playing all cupcakes either. He has sent quite a few players to the NFL. (especially his running backs). He has had successful quarterbacks etc.
2) He has instilled discipline amongst his players and has been brave enough to show players the door if they don't follow the company line. Could he win more games with some of the talent that left? Yeah, he probably could but then he would have to pay the price of the players running the show and not the coaches.
3) Does he have a playbook? Yep, and its a pretty good one that has shown real success in the past.
4) Is he organized? I think he has shown he knows how to run the internal parts of the program and not miss a beat in this way.
5) Does he own up to his mistakes? I think he does for the most part. There is always going to be a form of "coach speak" but that's apart of the job.

All of the things mentioned were the exact opposite of Willy. He kept bad characters to win a couple more games that first and second year but that wasn't going to address the problem. In fact, he brought in even more bad characters along the way. He was disorganized and wasn't right for the job. Do I think many including this website cover for him for a while? Absolutely!

We cannot fix anything repeating the same mistakes though. Big buyouts, losing more and more money, and changing staff on these kids constantly. We have to embrace the problem for a while and work our way through it. I'm willing to give the guy a chance. This crazy world of changing coaches every year is not sustainable. Show me a program that operates that way and is successful.

Every fan has a right to be angry, depressed, and frustrated. I'm sure the coaches are the same way but we cannot repeat the same mistakes. I feel exactly like our head coach. All the good practices in the world don't mean a hill a beans if it doesn't show up on gameday. These guys have to learn to win and it takes getting through adversity and being stronger on the other side to get there. So this is a part of the process.

louisville match up

their offense strength is their TE WR and RBs
weakness OL
their QB has been getting killed

their defense is solid at DB .. but can not get an INT if it hits you in the hands
GREAT at LB and deep
weak at DL

seems like a good match up for us
fsu needs to run and should against a weak DL

fsu strength is for sure DL and that goes against a week OL ..
the wake qb never makes mistakes under pressure and the Louiville QB does .. but he can run but we have been good at contain and staying home ..

like the match up if we play hard and physical

Time to try something new

MM is struggling with decision making and, with all due respect for his miraculous recovery, is not the QB he was 3 years ago. Our receivers struggle to get any separation, and we have an injury riddled OL that struggles in pass protection.

The strengths of this offense are Ward and Corbin and an OL that is relatively better at run blocking. If Jordan Travis can't go I would honestly put Travis Jay at QB and run shotgun veer. It's the scheme that makes the most sense for our strengths as well as mitigating our weaknesses.
