GoT Season 8 (spoilers)

I watched again last night with lights off and the picture quality was greatly improved. The nattle scenes and inside Winterfell was so much clearer without the overhead light and lamps on

I always watch these shows in the dark. I even shut the bathroom door due to a night light in one of the outlets.

That may explain why I have a tendency to fall asleep at times. Probably just getting old too I suppose.

If you’re a GOT fan I’d strongly suggest listening to the Entertainment Weekly GOT podcast. The one guy had basically full access to the filming/production. Great insight and discussions episode by episode.
His episode recap write ups are funny as hell too
Just listened to the latest one...thank you letting us know about it.

I do the same, I also recently purchased a 65" LG OLED which really does a great job with blacks.

2) As I(unfortunately) assumed, no one who was really important died. Like OP said, how many times can you put the same characters in impossible situations and then save them? This show simply doesnt have the balls it did when it started. Remember when they killed Ned Stark, basically the main character, just like that? Now even 2nd tier characters like Brienne and Samwell are allowed to live? Meh.
I think they are at a point now where all of the main characters have somewhat predictable destinies to fulfill as the series wraps up.

For example Jamie is almost definitely going to end up killing Cersei. Sansa will end up queen in the north. Jon will be on the throne. Etc etc. The list goes on as far as where these main people have been written to end up and there just isn't a lot of key people to spare.

I do think Brianne, Tormund and maybe even Arya might die a heroes death but in general there are quite a few characters that almost have to make it until they fulfill certain destinies.

I'm not defending it. I'm with you in hoping they keep the unpredictable nature that made the show great. I'm just looking at it from the writers standpoint and why they didn't kill off a bunch of mains at this point.

I was underwhelmed by the first episode considering they took almost 2 years to make 6 episodes... Thoughts?
I only have one real complaint about 8/3, though I do have questions that some others posted
Questions:
-Why send the Dothraki out before the dragons get a chance to thin out the walkers? Perplexed. What a waste of great cavalry.
-Hiding in the crypt........with all the dead? Huh? I guess it worked out in the end. Though there was some carnage when the dead woke, ALL the non-combatants would have likely been killed had they stayed in the open.
- I’m sure I’ll come up with more questions but those two are my main questions now

Now, my major complaint:
Allana Mormont was a major BADASS. I’ve liked her from her first appearance. I know she wasn’t initially intended to be major, recurring character but It’s a crying d*** shame that that little spitfire had to die before reproducing. Genes like hers deserve a long and reproductive life in a world like Westros.

I tend to agree with you about Jamie killing Cersei. I believe it will be him even though episode 3 sets it up for Arya being the killer of Brown Eyes, Blue Eyes, and Green (Cersei). And Cersei is probably number one on her kill list. I just feel Jamie gets to her first.

I don’t think it’s as clear cut with Jon being on the iron throne. He’s a reluctant leader who doesn’t relish the role. He’s the logical choice but a coworker of mine who does a very amateur podcast about the show has an interesting theory. A bit hard to fathom, but he feels Samwell will be appointed the throne by Jon. He’s a lord of his house now, an intellectual, and would undoubtedly care for the people. Just piecing together how he can possibly still be around after practically getting taken out on many occasions. Would be a bit of a shocker to end on.

I do agree Sansa will be the Lady of Winterfell, but will it be as the wife of Tyrion the new Warden of the North?

Hound exacts revenge on the Mountain. It has to happen right?

What side will Bronn be on?

And what the Hell happened to Ghost, Jon’s Direwolf? He’s with Jorah and the Dothraki when they charge the walkers but he never returns. Do we assume he perished or might he play a role before it ends? Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

That's fair, it might not be Jon on the throne but he is obviously super important and certainly wasn't going to die in that battle, if at all.

Side note, my favorite theory about Samwell is that the show will close with him putting the finishing touches on a book about the period in history that encompasses the events of the show... and the book would be called A song of ice and fire.

I definitely agree with you about the importance of Jon. It may very well be him. Just think there’s a chance it could be somebody we’re least expecting. This series has waffled between the unpredictable and predictable, so it really keeps you guessing. I love the theory you just mentioned hearing about Samwell though. That would be poetic!

The witch also tells Cersei: "And when your tears have drowned you, the Valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you." "Valonqar" means "little brother" in Valyrian — and if we are taking that literally, that means Tyrion . . . or Jaime, who is her twin, but could technically be her "little brother" since he was born after her.

Personally, I have a theory that Sam takes out Dany. He was plenty p***** about Dany killing his family and now he knows she wasn’t even the real heir to the iron throne.

This is a pretty cool video of the behind the scenes making of the 8/3 episode. Makes me appreciate the show even more.

I can't fathom the logistics of doing a production like this...we see so little of how much goes on for every aspect of whats shown...just the # of extras, the stars...horses...fire...geesh....it's mind boggling.

Not a bad theory at all. I almost forgot how upset he was at her when learning that his father and brother had been flame broiled as her prisoners.

I like that theory too about Sam. Although that particular one hadnt been one I have considered, I always did think he would play a bigger role than most expected. Surviving the last battle has convinced me.

Being that Jon is a reluctant leader/hero who i cant see sitting on the throne, I would have had him die at the hands of the NK in single combat. That would have really shaken the audience instead of these relatively insignificant deaths that we witnessed. That would have kept with the true spirit of the show and was a missed opportunity. Budgeting issues? The Dothraki were clearly throwaways, and have been treated as such for more than just this season. Ending them the way that you did makes it different than the other battles, plus you dont need to show them getting killed off individually which im guessing would be cheap.

It was solely for the optics of the flames moving across the field for the shot from Dany and Johns point of view.

Just watched my first episode ever tonight. So does this red head queen stay in power? Looks like it.

That was quite the ending to the episode. Lots to wrap up in the next two episodes
Really this felt like the first true “Game of Thrones” episode of the season.
The first 3 just felt kind of flat. They were not bad but were missing the feel that made GoT great.
The cut throat conspiracy who is going to betray who mentality of the early seasons showed up again tonight.

I hated the decision to attack while exhausted and i hated the dragon death scene. Figued those crossbows would kill one as they’ve teased it since season 7, but how does a fleet sneak up on dragons that can see, i dont know a bit better than humans from a distance? Then why didn’t Dany just fly over them high up and burn the ships from behind. Can the fleet swivel?

Jon disses Ghost yet again. Bizarre directing. I don’t think Tormund stays away.

Plot wise the Jamie loves Cersei return i found too convenient and I don’t buy it.
I did like the secrets being passed around and would bet on Varys/Tyrion choosing Dany and sabotaging Jon if they live. For now.
Sansa still seems the winner to me.

I enjoyed seeing the Hound with Sansa then off with Arya. I just want to follow them.
Is Bran done now? If so what a waste of knowledge/warging.

I agree the dragon death scene was dumb. The ghost scene was worse.

Back to the good stuff though, I have been saying for a while that I hope this ends up with Dany dying and Jon ruling. I think if she burns King's Landing he'll realize she's really not a good person.

Arya back on the road with the hound should be entertaining.

I think it's been clear for a long time that the hound will kill the mountain and Jamie will kill Cersei, so they are both on their way.

Uh oh, sloppy. lol. Unless that Starbucks cup is product placement.

I glossed over that picture and didn't see that lol. I wonder if that actually made it to the show or was edited out.

The dragon getting killed scene really shocked us...I didn't expect that.
The mountain killing Missadei was tough to watch...someone needs to kill that beotch Cersei asap

I think that Arya will take Jamies face and kill Cersei. I dont think Jamie himself, hes going to kill Euron. Hound kills Mountain. My theory.
I wonder if we will see the character that played the Faceless Man...the one who trained Arya?

Now, that Jaime’s dark secret has been revealed to Brienne… I could see him being added to Arya’s death list. ‘The little brother’ part of MTF’s prophecy could still hold true If Arya takes Jamie’s face. Bran said that Jaimie was needed alive to help fight the dead. He was terribly evasive about afterwards…

I could also see Cersei blowing up parts of KL and killing some of the Golden Company in the process. This—along with a few soldiers being murdered at sea over dice—could null and void the agreement in Harry Strickland’s mind.

I wonder if the Greyjoy guy turns on Cersei when he finds out the baby isn’t his.

I thought this was another mediocre episode, highlighted by the conversation between Tyrion and Varys. Finally, a reminder of what made this series so good. I am looking forward to how it all plays out. Unfortunately, so much of the rest of the episode is just plain bad IMO.

Like another poster asked, can the dragons not see? Apparently, they missed the entire fleet out in front of them. Also, the first two bolts hit the dragon head-on, then the third hit it from the side. When they show the fleet, all of the ships are together and pointing in the same direction.

Also mentioned above, Dany could have easily destroyed the entire fleet from behind. Instead, she charges ahead and into the line of fire of dozens of bolts....only to pull up and move off. What was the point of that?

The scene with Jamie and Brienne was laughable.

Milesandre dies, who cares(they killed another meaningless character)? Would have been better if Cersei pushed her off the ledge. If she is looking for all-out war, why didnt she drop Tyrion on the spot, killing Danys most trusted advisor.

At this point, I am more worried that they wont ruin the entire series than I Am excited to see it wrapped up in spectacular fashion.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

I agree that she had no reason to not just rain down arrows at Tyrion at that point... Oh well, I try not to second guess the decisions of fake characters but sometimes they just keep adding up and annoying you.

That said it's still the best show on TV so I'll take it.

My favorite show right now is Gomorrah.

Do you know if they’re making an English version of it? conflicting reports online... I don’t know why but I seriously struggle with keeping up with the subtitles on Italian films.

Some of the characters are far from having any semblance of reality if you think about it. I just try to enjoy the show for what it is and try to not get tripped up on what it could or should be.

I dont, I actually prefer the subtitles. I would be surprised if you couldnt find a dubbed version online if you know where to look.
