Offensive Formations (tight ends)

How about some kudos to Jordan Wilson and Cam for their run blocking. The third and 8 was beautiful to watch Gibbons pull from left guard and Wilson pull from behind Scott. The blocking scheme worked to perfection and Corbin made it look easy. I really like the tight end formation lined up behind the tackle. The tight ends are making a mark.

Impressive JT stat

I wanted to highlight something I just read in Ira's article. Ira writes, "according to Pro Football Focus, Travis' overall offensive grade of 93.4 on Saturday was tied for No. 1 in the country among quarterbacks."

I got to tell you I haven't given the kid appreciation he deserves. That's impressive. Doesn't seem like he's a Star Quarterback does it?

The article also notes that he just set a record scoring five touchdowns. The guy set a record for TDs out of everybody that's everrrrr played at Florida State? Wow, I'm going to have to start appreciating Jordan Travis.

Recap/Quotes from Mike Norvell's coaches show (10/11): Fuller, Dillingham 8:02 p.m.

They're changing it up tonight with DC Adam Fuller instead of Norvell, giving the HC off tonight for his birthday. There will be a few segments with Fuller, then with Dillingham. Quotes coming from Fuller.

On big picture what did FSU do right against UNC: Guys a did a good job of executing the plans. Communication and ability to play with each other is improving. It takes guys playing with each other and off of each other.

Deckerhoff points out the defense is getting better as the season goes on, and Fuller say “you’re supposed to.” Says they had confidence going into the week. Knew they had better football in them…Just proud of the way we finished that game.

Fuller shouts out the FSU fans who made the trip up to North Carolina

They haven’t played to their standard early at corner, but the past two week they’ve played much better. Some of it has been continuity and they way they are practicing.

On the fourth quarter goal line stop: It really builds that confidence. Just because they ball is down there doesn’t mean they have points. Red zone defense is critical.

On confidence: says it’s gotta be real. Gotta go back to your training.

On the UNC preparation: Says every week is its own week. Wanted to establish a tighter rotation with the DBs for more consistency. They had some history with UNC after last year so that sped up preparation. Year 2 playing teams a second time has helped the process. Week of practice went really well and that showed up on Saturday.

On coaching against great players. Said sometimes the focus defensively is on them but other times calls stay the same. You can’t focus on them every play because an offense will see it. Explain to the players that a call is used to take the player out of the game, but that might not even apply to 8 or 9 of the defenders on the play.

On prepping for an offense, do you begin with quarterback? Fuller said you try to write the definition of what the offense is. Chapter 1 is usually the quarterback but not all the time.

On DL and DE Jermaine Johnson: He’s headed up the success with being active behind the line of scrimmage. Then his mindset and aggressiveness with his preparation and how he practices. Keir Thomas has as big of an impact as Jermaine with his leadership and toughness. Said he thinks Lovett is playing as good as any defensive tackle in the country right now.

On the LBs improving. So proud of Kalen Deloach. Playmaking has really shown up this year. Said he was banged up going into the game. When they asked him how he was feeling before the game, he said 10/10 and there was no way he was a 10. For him to say that shows the young man that he is. He’s a shining light. Amari Gainer is playing hard. DJ Lundy is really showing out for a redshirt freshman.

On DB Jammie Robinson: Fuller pointed out for recruits that defense will use you in multiple ways if you have the skill set. Said it used to be that if a safety was your leading tackler, that’s not good. But football is changing. Jammie is a sure tackler.

That is all for Fuller.

FSU OC Kenny Dillingham is coming up next for the second half of the program. Doesn't look like there will be an assistant coach and player guest tonight with the coordinators taking Norvell's place.

On the UNC win: Was a great challenge for the guys, was great to see them respond. Proved that hard work does pay off, if you keep working.

On starting 4 QBs in 2020: Gotta play the cards you’re dealt. All of those guys got in there and they got great game experience. When you’re on the field, you’re getting better. Nothing replaces a game rep.

On QB Jordan Travis: Extremely tough and extremely competitive. To see the joy on his face versus UNC. He brings that ‘something’ that nobody can explain just by how he plays the game. Say its infectious with his teammates. He’s dynamic. Not just with his legs. To see him go out there and play the game the way that I know he can play it, nothing better than to see the smile on his face with the success.

On WR Ontaria Pokey Wilson: One of the hardest working players on the team. When you have guys like him and Keyshawn and they’ve put in the work but it hadn’t translated yet, and then they see it [the success against UNC] and feel it. That’s how you build. So happy for those guys.

On WR Malik McClain: So physical. He is a junkyard dog playing wideout. Said they made him block safeties against UNC and he blocked them all night long. Combined the mentality with his physicality. Credits his parents, said McClain’s dad was in the military.

On the OL, Dillan Gibbons: That’s where everything starts. When those 5 are healthy and on the same page, that’s where the game starts and ends. They were battling through injuries. Mo [Maurice] Smith coming back is huge for them. Rob [Scott] and Dillan [Gibbons] playing banged up. Said they’re all fighting through it and playing for each other.

On the RBs: Said the top two both root for each other. Treshaun Ward has really good field vision. Jashaun Corbin hits the hole. They want to see each other succeed. Everybody is playing for each other. Everyone wants to succeed badly. That’s why they’re getting slowly getting better each week.

Really funny moment here if you have ever been around Norvell or Dillingham. Fan question was How do you keep the energy high during the bye week? Dillingham smiled and said “walk in our building and you’re going to know how we keep it high.” (My words here: I would say this if they were 2-4, 0-6, or 6-0. Those two are extremely always high-energy every time I have ever been around them, whether it was early in the morning for practice or at 3 AM during the midnight madness. So that question kind of made me chuckle.)

On how they operate: You better come to work and you better enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy the process of getting better, then you are going to live a miserable life. If all you are working for is the end result, what happens every day of the week other than game day?

On the TE and the versatility: We ask a lot of that position. Last week Camm McDonald caught two big balls on some screens. Tight end blocking is critical to be able to run the football.

Dillingham said during the bye week he likes to set new goals for the QBs. Said they have gotten so much better. Said Chubba Purdy is benefitting from his first true season of prep. Tate Rodemaker is getting better and better every day. Said McKenzie Milton makes himself better, Norvell better, everybody on the team better because of the adversity that he has faced.

And that is all from tonight everyone. Have a great night. Check back in the morning for Tuesday practice updates.

Those who continue to complain about

Jordan Travis not being a QB don't understand the multiple ways and styles of play in football. A running QB punishes man to man coverage. If we play to the strengths of a run first it opens up deep shots as well as passes across the middle. Using an RPO based passing game plays perfectly with inside/outside zone runs. I think this bye week will not only allow the team to get healthy but focus on execution of the power run game, I hope MN and KD don't get cute with installation of new plays for the stretch run and just stick to the basics by mixing different looks with the same plays. The key is the health of the oline and being able to get push on power runs straight at defenses. Run the ball play defense has to be our style of play until all personnel needed to operate MN expanded offensive playbook are recruited and developed.

A different take(maybe)

The Notre Dame game was fun, it was a great live environment and even though we almost came back and won , and could've won it was pretty clear that we were lacking talent at just about every position on both sides of the ball and it was pretty obvious to me that Milton is half as good as he used to be at best...amazing comeback and inspirational/ great story
it's unfortunate he is our best option.

obviously I did not see us losing to Jacksonville State but based on the previous paragraphs I'm not surprised if we lose to just about everybody we play

you combine that lack of ability with the mistakes made constantly out of either fear or lack of assignment awareness ( I do not believe it's something that can be taught overnight)

You will find ways to lose which showed times a million versus Wake!

It's like a golfer trying to break 80 for the first times. Unfortunately we are trying to break 90 at the moment.

You can come on here and post all you want and rant and rave but the reality is this team would've been three and nine last year with a full schedule and most of those losses were blowouts

this team is fighting hard and they're going to keep trying and I'm gonna keep rooting for them

Some of you others who post are like the social media warriors Who won't do anything about it and won't write a check but you will just point at a burning house and tell us it's on fire

Go Noles

Perfect timing for the bye week

This has already been a rollercoaster of a season — the feel-good (ish) from the Notre Dame game to the all-time low against JSU. It took a while to climb out of that, and maybe we haven’t even done that yet, but to get two wins and start actually feeling that confidence, it’s going to be a good thing for these kids.

Then, we SHOULD come out and beat up UMass. You know our kids recognize they can’t take anyone lightly after week 2. So they’re going to prepare hard.

But man, it’s also prime time in the season to get our offensive line right. We’re down to minimal guys as is, it’s time to get Robert Scott, Gibbons, Smith, & DLT right for the first time this year. Not to mention whatever has been ailing the DB’s too.

Before the season I wanted the bye week before Clemson; right now i think this is as good a time as any. The more healed up they can get, the less likely they are to continue hurting and tweaking their injuries. Lets get into the next 6 games as full strength as we can be.

Way to soon to say....

The win over NC may have sold us fools gold. We beat them last year and then went back to losing again. We have the same coaches and same players. I am not sure last weeks game plan beats Clemson, Florida, or even BC. We have to be more balanced. I am not sure we have the personnel for that. It’s a win, it was fun, but a win is all it was. There was no coming out party. We are getting better, I like the way we don’t quit. But our secondary, OL, and QB are still works in progress. Slow progress.

Yall… Tallahassee is a beautiful place… click this thread

So I am an alumn. Moved to NY a decade ago so it is difficult to get back regularly.

A group of us… mostly Lamda Chi guys go to an away game every year. Golf… good restaurants… the game.

It makes you realize… Tallahassee is a such a great place.

Chapel Hill is a snooze fest folks. I can not believe how weak the crowd was. The bars are few and far between.

Will never go back to CH. One and done…

Updates from Monday press conferences (with videos)

Norvell is here.

"I thought we played one of our cleanest games. 100 percent ball security offensively, had explosive plays, had an explosive play in special teams. ... Defensively, there were three drives that North Carolina had. ... I thought we did some good things defensively, though we were down a lot of personnel. ... The physicality, the toughness, the mindset of how our guys responded after being down 10-0 ... I thought Jordan played at an extremely high level. ... the efficiency of him throwing the football was incredible. Great decisions. ... All in all a good team win."

On the postgame celebration: "I was a lot happier after this (UNC win) than I was after that one." Says it was a complete win. All three phases contributed. "It was a great celebration in the locker room. You see the joy, you see the excitement. .. This is a team that believes, you see it in their eyes ... From a discipline aspect of it, another game where we were limited in the penalties that we had.... The situational football is getting better, and that comes from the investment from our players. Good to celebrate, good to see them have that experience on the road. ....We believed that we could, so it was a great time in that locker room."

"It was fun watching the film. .... You see plays that are executing at a high rate ..." Gives a shout out to the offensive line and the TEs. Only gave up two TFLs and no sacks. "Been a while since that's happened. These guys, they're growing up. ... That group has been battling. ... It was nice to see 11 guys operating as one. Doesn't always mean it's going to be an explosive play. ... And other than the first quarter, that's what we wanted the game to look like."

"Rob Scott played probably his best game of the year. ... Darius I thought played really well. ... Maurice is still battling away ... his growth mentally from a year ago to where it is now is incredible." Said Gibbons played one of his better games since he got here from a physicality standpoint ... Says it's a challenge because of the injuries, and not getting consistency, "but they're growing in confidence in what they can do. ... It wasn't perfect by any stretch, but I think those guys are getting better."

"We haven't changed the emphasis in practice. ... But translating that from practice to the field. ... Our corners specifically, I thought they played one of their better games there on Saturday." Says it carries over to all positions, working on fundamentals and technique and playing situations better. ... "And when you see that success confidence continues to build. And I think we're feeding off that a little bit."

On Travis's poise: "He played very confident. ... I think the play that stood out, and Coach Dillingham and I were talking about, the third and six where he hit Keyshawn on the under route. ... that was a real play, went through a progression, looked so calm ... and I thought that sparked him a little bit." Says when you're an explosive player like Travis is, you can want every play to be a big one. "Jordan is growing in his confidence ... if he lets the game come to him he can be really, really good."

On the bye week: "We need it. Gave guys off. Yesterday they came in for treatment. Obviously, we've got to get guys healed up. ... We'll come back to work tomorrow and Wednesday, big fundamental focus." Says contact is going to be reduced this week, because they've been pushing hard. ... Says they're a physical team, and there are things that have to carry over in the second half of the season, but they need to let bodies heal up. "We played good football Saturday because we prepared to play good football."

On Emmitt Rice: "He is progressing well. And Leonard Warner is progressing well. Those guys are getting closer. ... If they get an opportunity to be able to help us, we're going to push forward to see if they can do that."

On Jammie Robinson's move to safety: Says development of Kevin Knowles at nickel back has shifted things around a bit in the secondary. And that allows Robinson to play the traditional safety spot. "We ask so much of Jammie. The production is there, he had a bunch of tackles on Saturday ... we want to continue to see Kevin continue to grow and make that kind of impact," and says Robinson's versatility is big for the defense.

On the zone read: "A lot of it is just the repetition. ... Any read game, it takes time for the mesh, takes time in the finer details in that, with him, the backs. Those guys, they're working hard at it. I thought they executed at a pretty high level there on Saturday ... He's definitely come along with the practice reps he's getting."

On Lovett: "I thought he played one of his best games. ... He's a great leader for us. ... It was impressive to see him perform. ... We've been testing our defensive tackles (because of injuries). ... Robert Cooper had to play a lot more snaps than normal ... you look at the two bookends and they played a lot of snaps. Both played over 60 snaps."

On the corners: "It's coming. Those are young players. ... We want those guys to take their game to the next level. ... I think the sky is the limit for what they can accomplish, but it has to be that consistency. ... That's what we're trying to instill in those guys."

On birthday plans (turns 40 today): "I'm glad to make it to another birthday. ... Each day you get a chance to make an impact on somebody, you take those experiences and you learn from them and grow from them. ... I've been blessed throughout my coaching career. ... 15 years ago or 16 years ago I didn't know a Division I coach, but I was blessed with an opportunity. ... Today, I'm going to celebrate it by working. .. Said he gave staff off yesterday and watched the FSU women's soccer team win."

Offensive identity: "We're always going to be an offense that takes what the defense gives us. ... We were able to establish the run. Limited the number of negative plays and were able to play ahead of the chains. ... Saturday was complimentary football, that's what I like seeing. ... As long as we can get the run game established and have productivity in it, that's what's going to allow (big plays to show up)."

On Ward's last run: Says it would have been a rough conversation for Treshaun if he hadn't gotten the first down, because he ran out of bounds on the previous play. "That was all heart there. The work he's put in, the player I believe he is and is going to continue to develop to be, he has a chance to be special. ... He doesn't have a bad day. Because he's had to earn it, he's had to work himself from the bottom up. ... Really proud of him."

That's a wrap on Norvell.
Kenny Dillingham is up next.

On Travis: "Jordan is still a first-year starting quarterback. ... The more games he plays, I better see improvement. He's becoming more of a veteran than he is. Regardless of his class, you're not a quarterback until you play live snaps. .... He made all of those plays with his legs, but he managed to get down, to not take those hits. ... Those are the plays in the game that are never going to be talked about ... and he's a super intelligent kid. People don't realize what he does for us (getting them in the right calls, changing protections) ... when you combine all those things, he has a chance to be pretty special.

"We blocked them. ... We caught the football ... we made plays when our number was called. We scored in the red zone and didn't turn the ball over." It wasn't a special scheme they came up with. Just executed it better.

On third downs: Says coaches spend nine hours every week trying to devise all these great third-down plays, ... seven out of 10 third down conversions are a guy making a play. .... "In those situations, our guys made plays. And that's what we need to do the rest of the year to continue to grow and continue to get better." Says a scrambling quarterback REALLY helps in those spots.

On Ward: "He's just competitive." Said he was saying some really not nice words when Ward ran out of bounds, but then was saying the same words in a much different context when he made the first-down run moments later. "I was super proud of the way he responded at the end of the game." Says it was a great sign.

On O-line: "Getting Mo back is obviously huge for us. ... Those guys are banged up. They need this week probably more than any other position group probably." Says when they look at opposing defenses, they worry a lot about avoiding TFLs. Says he challenged the O-line. Told them if they had 14 possessions they were going to run for 300 yards. "They did a great job."

On the WRs: "We had no drops. We had guys fighting. ... Probably first game since we've been here where we caught every ball." Says they did the timing of the motions and bunches really, really well. "That's what creates winning football ... and then when they're number was called they made the play. ... That was our guys going out there and making a play on a critical third and 12. .... I think this was the first week they kind of reaped what they've been sewing."

On Travis: "I think this was his best game. ... I'm a big believer in Jordan Travis, but I'm not going to say he's anywhere close to where he can be. I think he needs to start better. ... He hasn't played much live football. So, every game he better get better. ... It just means every game you should see something you didn't see in the prior week. You should see a little bit more calmness. ... This week, he wound the clock down to two seconds, three seconds, and it was pure poise ... He doesn't get enough credit for his intelligence and getting us into the right plays, and getting us into protections ... I'm excited to see how much better he can get, because there's a lot of room for growth."

"To watch him smile and joke around and play with that passionate energy ... and you can feel his passion when he knows the game is over, that's exciting."

"It's not about us. It's about them. Seeing the guys work and work and work and believe and believe and believe, and then it clicked ... and we're not even close to where we should be ... to see the guys' faces, that's what excites me. To see their joy. There is nothing better than kids see you can work hard and achieve success."

Says they've been horrible on the road and he brought that up with the offense. Says he challenged his players to figure out something to do differently so they could play better away from home. "Honestly, that speech probably had no bearing, it just sounds good."

On what next step looks like: "I think there were more opportunities to be explosive." Said there were a couple of missed runs, and some missed perimeter throws, including one to Toafili in the second quarter. "We're never where we want to be." Says if the guys keep working they're going to keep improving. "It's simple, but that's the only way to get better is to work."

And that's a wrap on Dillingham.
Adam Fuller is up next.

Says they were excited about the plays the corners made. Said quarterback was very good and the slot WR was one of the best they'll see. ... "It was good to get some consistency in the back end in back to back weeks in terms of who's playing, playing together, and to see that show up ... that was definitely a positive."

"You can't fake confidence. You can try, but it's going to be empty when it really comes down to it." Says being able to show them the plays they made on film now should build confidence. "This place is built with dirt and mud and hard work ... " Says he's happy they built confidence, but the only way to sustain it is to keep working hard.

Says the practices can be challenging because some of the players simply can't practice, but they know they're going to play. Hard to develop some consistency, but they're getting better. "We had a couple of guys missing, but that's always going to happen in this sport. ... We're playing better together."

"It was good to go out and make some critical stops. ... That interception was critical. ... The fourth down was really a product of everybody doing their job ... what they wanted to do on that play got taken away."

"Our good players are playing well. ... We were in a little more in three down this week on third down," says that had to do with game plan and players that were available. Said Howell hurt them more with his feet than with his arm. They didn't want him to hurt them with anything, but they preferred it to be with his legs. "We can be better, but give him some credit, too."

Says he loves working with Norvell, because he gets it. He just wants to win the game. And he'll cater a gameplan or the flow of the game by how it's going. If defense is playing well, the offense will play to that. And vice versa. Says it's not a program or a team that is divided. They're going to do what it takes to try to win.

On Ray's performance: "Fabien Lovett went up to Coach Haggins and said he wanted Malcolm Ray to start. ... It shows confidence in each other, and the respect level in that defensive room. ... Said Ray played over 20 snaps, and it wasn't perfect, but it was solid. ... Fabien is playing really good football. He's backing up everything I thought he would." Said they're excited about Ray and Farmer, and hoping Jackson can get back to where he needs to be this week.

"He wanted to see Malcolm have that opportunity. ... Fabien, when he's been healthy this year .. he's made major impacts. Not only in the run game, but in the throw game. He's definitely one of our best football players in our program right now. And he's acting like it on and off the field."

Says the players know, even better than the coaches, who the real team leaders are.

On UNC's last TD: Says there was enough time when the drive started, you knew you were up three scores ... when the clock started going they weren't going at the rate we thought they would go. So he said he pulled back a little bit on aggressiveness, because he didn't want defense to make a big mistake and allow a long TD.

That's a wrap on Fuller.
John Papuchis is up next.
On the Jay return: "That was a big play, I thought. It was a spark when we probably needed one. Down 10-0. To get good field position, to get it out to the 41 to start a drive, I thought that was a big play." Says the first return had a chance to be a really big play, but they missed that block that led to Wren getting hit.

Says he thought return units did a very nice job overall.

On hands team for onside kick: "Every week we spend time on it, and you prepare yourself for the moment when you get a chance to do it. And I thought the guys did a nice job. ... The guys did a great job of getting lined up properly, and ultimately when it mattered we were able to get the ball back."

On touchbacks on kickoffs: Says it was probably most solid day they've had kicking, and Groathaus did have his best day. "If he can do that every kick, that's what we want to get done."

Says the transfers on the D-line understand the concept that: "Everybody benefits when the team has success. ... It's a lot easier to achieve your individual goals when your team is being successful. ... I think Jermaine and Keir are both adamant that they want to put their stamp on Florida State football."

On defensive line vs UNC: "I think as a group we played well. From a statistical standpoint, it probably doesn't reflect that. ... The ball was coming out quick, so I thought that was a positive." Says they have been enjoyable to coach, they've been very consistent since Day 1. ... "It's why they've been one of the more consistent units on the team. It's been fun to coach them this year."

And that's a wrap on Papuchis. And a wrap on the day.
Go out there and attack the rest of the day. Live your best life.

Am I The Only One?

I have heard Jeff and Ira mention something along this line this week, but am I the only one who feels like Kenny D. has been trying to force Jordan Travis to be a pocket quarterback to a fault, and maybe the last two games they finally just let him be who he is as a quarterback? I’m not saying he’s been heathy the whole time, or has not benefitted from being forced to refrain from the run…yet it just seems like they let him go the last game and a half.

I’m sure someone else mentioned this at some point, I’ve unfortunately not been able to be up on the tribal council for the last year due to how the pandemic has affected my family’s living situation.

Go Noles! Let’s fight and climb for a bowl!

Most frustrating season ever

I have not posted much since the Jax St debacle. A few things up front:

This is a likeable team. I don't see any personalities on it that appear problematic. The me-culture appears to be eradicated. I see effort, I see hustle and passion. I don't see above average coaching, I don't see above average execution, I don't see above average talent or above average athleticism/talent etc.

We are very average. I've been trying to wrap my head around the fact that without a ton of things going differently, we could be 4-1 right now. We could also be 0-5. Wake is the outlier, and Wake appears to be a team that could go into November with zero losses and a chance to run the table(and likely be left out of the playoff but I digress...)

The coordinators are not producing. I don't know if the main issue is the deficiencies in our personnel, but the fact remains that in month 2, game 5, you can't have the repeated mistakes that we saw last Saturday. How does a naked bootleg account for nearly half of their offensive production and points? That play shouldn't have gashed us once, let alone 6 or 7 times? How do we not adjust to the crossing route that they used countless times to pick up first downs? I see that Fuller wants to make the offense work their way down the field and then get a stop when the field shrinks. I don't think we are that outmatched to take that kind of approach. But of course, we've been beaten over the top so many times that you'd have to wonder just why he thinks that strategy works. I know we don't have a great pass rush, but it is better than it has been. You see periods of competitiveness from the defense that gives you hope. The two fourth down stops against Syracuse, the great second half against Louisville, the 4th quarter against Notre Dame. We're just missing playmakers who force turnovers, along with the right aggressiveness to create mistakes by the opposition.

On offense, we don't appear to have a plan most games to use our strengths to our advantage from the get-go. Dillingham appears to outthink himself on the playcalling on nearly every drive. We don't utilize our best asset(Corbin) nearly enough, or our second best asset(Ward), but these guys keep making plays. The biggest issue I have is the formations. More often than not, when we set up the trip receivers, the other team puts two guys out there, and we still can't execute. So we are basically creating a mismatch against ourselves because we can't get blocking on the edge, and if we do try to run it, we are outmanned in the rest of the formation. Don't get me wrong, sometimes we do beautiful things. I see the scheme attempting to exploit things and succeeding, or nearly succeeding all the time. The interception thrown by Travis this past weekend was not his fault except for perhaps not having a better placement and velocity. McDonald can't miss that block. And if it connects, Ward only has to make one guy miss to make a huge gain. There were two deep passes that should have connected as well. Yes, the OL isn't always able to get the protection it should. But, when you have half the field to put the ball out in front of your receiver, and you don't use it, then its bad execution. We have to start making those plays.

I don't see a terrible collection of talent on the field. I don't see a team that should be winless. I see a team that makes mistakes at the worst possible time. Fumble against Wake after getting a turnover. Fumble on a punt return when we're up by double digits with the momentum. We are winning first down on defense, getting the opponent into bad 3rd down situations, and not capitalizing to give our offense the ball. Why can't we produce a well disguised, well-timed blitz? I've seen maybe two all year long.

Like I said, frustrating. This is a better team than the last two years. I think this is a more competent staff than the last two years, but they still don't hit the mark that is needed at this level. I liked what Willie could have been, but he didn't do the work in all phases to stay here. I think MN is doing that, but isn't getting the results. The remainder of this season is going to be the difference between our program being the same, or potentially elite, in the next 3 years. If you somehow get consistency on both sides of the ball, you can beat Miami and BC. You may even be able to hang with NC State or put a scare into Clemson despite the severe talent disparity that exists right now between the programs.

Hang in there guys, the program isn't in tatters as much as we might think. Sometimes it is as simple as not pressing for it all to come together. FWIW, I don't expect our game at UNC to be close this weekend. I think they'll handle us rather easily. But I hope I'm wrong. I hope that the team comes out with pride, gets some early momentum and pulls off a shocker. I just want to see them compete and at least come back understanding that there preparation was good, just that the other team was better. The bye week should help, and then we will see what can happen.
