Gary Paterson and Mike Gundy are options 2a and 2b for A&M.

Sad thing is, I feel as if they would turn down the job even with a 50% raise.

Man...Jimbo must really hate working here if he bounces.

...or maybe that extra $2.5 mil/yr allows him to start his own beef jerky company. Remember what the wise owl Lane Kiffin said when opining on the economics of a football coach.

"I figured it out. I really don't make any money. I pay around 52% in taxes. Layla gets 34.5% in the divorce, and [agent Jimmy Sexton] gets 3%. I make [about] 9% and I'm living in Tuscaloosa."

Lane should ask Sexton to recommend a better accountant

If Sexton/Jimbo want to renegotiate, shouldn't we be able to renegotiate his salary DOWN? I mean, they renegotiate it up in good years, right? I'm tired of the theatrics every year. If he wants to go, C ya and leave a check on the desk. If not, STFU, bank your $5mil+ and get to work on making this team better.

Gary Patterson just signed a 4-year extension w/TCU. He's off the table.

EDIT: Whoops, it was a 2-year extension, paying him $5.1 mil/year through 2023.

So either way, he's locked down it would appear.

I agree that Patterson is not in play. He's turned down better jobs than A&M in recent years. Gundy though is interesting to me. If he's in play for A&M and they opt for Jimbo then let's bring the mullet to Tallahassee.

Get your butt down here and say that!

Hopefully we have already been on the phone talking to Gundy, Taggart, Frost, Fuente and Leach as we speak. You can’t assume Jimbo is staying and need to be prepared unlike Tenn.

Meh, Jimbo has a contract, too (for a bit higher). If Patterson wants to leave, he’ll leave.

It's probably all up to Jimmy Sexton. I don't know who the agent is for all those guys, but Sexton essentially controls the market. We should just ask Jimmy who the next coach will be.

Rocky hit his post button while I was typing.

Already on the shelf? How may weeks have you had your lights up as well?

lol. elf comes out day after thanksgiving and the lights went up over the weekend. my daughter has been talking about the elf for a month now. she knows when its supposed to arrive.

What gets me in all of this is the lack of direct quotes but instead, everything coming from "sources close to the situation". The only quotes I've seen attributed are from Thrasher, Jimbo and Ethan Fisher. All of them have said he's staying. Now, I understand that in today's instant information world, all the media is in a race to be first. They can't come out and say that they have to wait until there's something definitive so they print speculation and rumors.

The truth is only a small handful of people actually know what's going on. The rest of us are guessing.

Good point but there is one guy who could make a statement that whether we like it or not puts things in perspective. I get the need for more money etc. However if you are in a partnership of trust and similar goals you should be able to talk honestly. It is not like FSU has forced him to coach there and made him work for minimum wage with a fry machine that is a fire hazard. JF has done some good things for FSU and FSU has done some good things for him. How about we have some honesty from him.
At this point the only way my opinion of JF changes as a man is if he takes the job due to his son's medical issues. I get that and oddly enough if he just said something like that no one would think less of him. Right now he looks like a guy who is always trying to get more and for the next big paycheck.

Fisher has said in the last couple of weeks that he plans on being at FSU as long as they'll have him in the past two weeks.

By not absolutely committing to FSU, and playing these dalliances with other schools annually, he's done his public image no favors. He can say he's staying all he wants. Actions, not words.

Great but 2 weeks ago was AM after him? I just see it as being honest and if you are looking then great thanks for sharing; but if not then tell us that too. If this is some big elaborate way to get better facilities, fire coaches, more money for assistants or whatever then FSU has a much bigger problem than I thought, because honest interaction between 2 committed parties should be the main goal.

The aTm rumor has been around for well over 2 weeks.

Honestly, right now, having been shaken down every year it looks like there is some serious friction between CJF and FSU. We can all understand he want the most money possible...Mullen now makes more than CJF at a school we have owned in recent years...but this seems to be centering on other issues.
For instance, there have been reports (from someones brothers former barbers dad) that coordinators salaries may be an issue. FSU is in no position to get into the coaching staff arms race and CJF may know he has a ceiling at FSU if his assistants keep getting poached. I never did buy that crap about Pruitt leaving Tally for Athens bc Tally has too much hot tail...there isn't any of that in Athens or Tuscaloosa? It that were the case he would've gone to Gainesville. He left bc he got a hefty raise and now makes $1.3 mil.

Fair enough I guess I am not paying as much attention as I should; of course if you let rumors hang around long enough then they become fact whether they are or not.

I can understand that but there are other ways to handle that. If I am not mistaken doesn't Dabo take less money so his assistants can make more. Just one idea and I am sure there are plenty of ways to insure you get your assistants plenty of money. Although if he wants more money for some of these assistant coaches he is crazy and can leave right now.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the hold up is that Sexton and Fisher are negotiating to STAY at FSU? The powers to be finally called Fisher on his leaving. "Okay, bye.....we'll get someone else for the job." "Wait! I don't really want to go to College Station!"

Jason Staples has a great podcast this week about Jimbo and his frustration with the school, and vice versa.

Worth checking out.

Someone within boosters. Like I said, I have no way to verify, but apparently they didn’t want to pay out contracts plus pay for new ones.

I stand corrected. He did want to hire a few new coaches last year and the boosters told him no, they wouldn't pay what it takes.

per the podcast, this all to blame on the boosters...they are old cronies that have been running the boosters for 40 years and have the attitude that we don't need all the things that Fisher is requesting.

Jason also says that Brewster is leaving regardless to work for UF.

He might still wind up leaving. I don't know for sure either way. But I do think much of the drama is media driven.

Yes the media has a hand in it; but JF has the ability to stop all of this. I am not saying he needs to give us a detailed story every day; but a simple statement would help. Like wise the FSU admin could do the same thing with a simple " every year JF as a highly coveted coach is considered for other jobs and FSU has a short list of replacements if JF feels it is best for him to go to another program. FSU will always strive for excellence and the best facilities in college football as we always have"
FSU can control the narrative instead of letting others do it. The media will do whatever they want, but FSU should at least try and do the same.

Exactly...arms race
Name one other coach on our staff worth poaching
If true its clear UF has said enough is enough

  • Jimbo Fisher — $5.7 million.
  • Dan Mullen - $6.0 million.
  • Rich Rodriguez — $6.0 million.
  • Urban Meyer — $6.4 million.
  • Jim Harbaugh — $7.0 million.
  • Dabo Swinney — $8.5 million.
  • Nick Saban — $11.1 million.

I don't think there's an assistant coach on this staff that's worth more than he's already getting paid.
