Oregon just offered Taggart a new contract. Wonder why...

Oregon has offered coach WIllie Taggart a new contract with the hope that he’ll stay in Eugene even if a coveted job in his home state opens this weekend, SI.com has learned. If Taggart accepts, the new deal would pay a little more than $20 million over five years. But Taggart has reason to wait. If Jimbo Fisher leaves Florida State for Texas A&M, Taggart could be a candidate for the Seminoles’ job.

Taggert and Cristobal on staff....in terms of keeping up with recruiting....not a bad consolation prize if Jimbo moves on to College Station.

It'll be interesting to see how Jimbo does recruiting in Texas. I presume he has some relationships during his time at LSU.

it was a loose comment that I made without a lot of thought put behind it, but if you insist.

he used the power of sexton and him negotiating with other schools to create a demand for Jimbo. Jimbo then used that demand as leverage to get the things he wanted from FSU. That approach wore thin on the school and fans. If he didn't have Sexton in his free time talking with other schools and going that route, Jimbo would have been forced to find more productive and sensible ways to get things done...imo.

again...i'm to tired to go back and forth on this....it just blurted out. I'm sure Im wrong...so i concede.

It will be interesting to see who Jimbo hires as assistant coaches. Head coaches usually only decide on offers, and seal deals. There's a lot of talent in Texas. There's also lot of competition - UT, Houston, LSU, OK, OK State, Arkansas, Bama, TCU, FSU.

Unless Jimbo changes his style, he'll only be able to hire "yes" men to coach and recruit for him.

It's akin to watching a Texas high school football game with college cheerleaders down there. I prefer their cheerleaders at LaSpada's.

I know everyone has a source, but I finally talked to “my guy” who is as close to the situation as one can be, here is what happened.

Jimbo went to Thrasher with his yearly demands after being verbally offered by A&M.

He went to Thrasher four times.

1. Said he wanted facilities started right a way. Thrasher said you got it.

2. Said he wanted to match salary and budgets offered for him and asst coaches by A&M. Thrasher said yes.

3. Jimbo then came back and said he wanted Miller gone. Thrasher said he would do his best to make that happen, but that it wasn’t an overnight thing and to be patient. At this point Thrasher was supposedly annoyed with Jimbo and the attitude he had towards everything.

4. Lastly Jimbo came back a fourth time and said he didn’t want to report to Wilcox (Wilcox is in every meeting they have). Thrasher said that wasn’t possible and that Wilcox can’t just not be there. Fisher then said for Thrasher to just fire him. Thrasher told him that wasn’t going to happen. Supposedly Fisher was saying some incredibly rude things about Wilcox during this conversation. Thrasher then told Fisher that it was probably best he take the A&M job and that his last game should be Saturday. Jimbo agreed.

Thrasher asked about his kids, and what he was going to do. Fisher said he’d just buy a jet and fly them over for summers and every other weekend.

Supposedly Thrasher was incredibly upset and hurt how Fisher acted, Siad it was the most angry he had ever seen him and that he was shocked how he just blew off his kids like he did.

Ethan was asked by his buddy if he were moving, and he said that his Dad was going to buy a jet and fly them over when they wanted. (Different source, but legit).

No offense, but I don't believe for a second that you or anyone has "sources" THAT close to the situation, Dan.

I believe you have sources who SAY they're that close.

But no way anyone knows that level of detail other than Thrasher...and I suspect he's not your source.

Figured this much, and that’s okay. But it is a close as one can get. No reason for me to post BS. Matter of fact, I’ve been on the boards since 2005ish and have never posted anything like this. Wouldnt do if it weren’t legit.

It’s just what you posted could only be known by Thrasher. I’m not trying to call you a liar. It’s just not possible that Thrasher would go blabbing about a conversation that intimate before the news was allowed to break. He’d want to break that news himself, IMO.

If true, even more convinced he should just go.

Whatever. He’s either gone or he’s not. We’ll know soon enough.

This conversation took place shortly after the UF game. Didn’t say when, but I’m guessing Sunday or Monday. I don’t know what transpired between that time and now.

I heard it happened Monday.

Jimbo will have had the worst season in my lifetime. He did so with a ton of NFL level talent. There are people who will be upset. I wasn’t one of them. I think a lot of us didn’t overreact. But with that, we wanted Jimbo to recommit and prove us right.

If the establishment was preventing him from firing the coaches he needs to fire, he could have gotten that out there earlier through Cameron, Bud, and Dot. The fan base would have been behind him.

There was a better way to do this.

You weren’t around in 06 or 07?

Well another commit decommitted and Jimbo was asked about loyalty at the show today the mic was quickly taken away from the guy asking the questions.

.......

No clue if you are correct, I have no basis to not believe; you haven't historically seemed like that type, and people have plenty of conversations 1:1 and then vent to their peers and the conversation ripples. I have been part of that in my work situation so it is fully believable. AND there are a number of people who need to get moving for a replacement if thats true, so Thrasher having situation conversations to start a hiring effort just in case makes sense.

And between Jimbo's history of using leverage every season as well as the non committal responses when a definitive response would suffice, I see this all as being very plausible. He is saying enough to not lie, but not coming out right and showing his cards. Not answering direct questions is a punting technique. Just as he has done in the past. People get to a point in their careers where telling the truth about something would be worse than simply dodging or lying to get past the next hurdles. Especially if they are moving positions or considering.

You weren’t around in 06 or 07?

Jeff Bowden as OC went 7-6 in '06, including beating Miami in with Drew Weatherford at QB . Seminole Nation was ready to lynch Bobby for not firing a coordinator who was in over his head. We ended up hiring a hotshot OC from the SEC who was thought to be the Quarterback Whisperer. What did this guy do with mediocre Drew Weatherford in
07? Well he went 7-6. The difference between '06-'07 and '17 is that we have a hell of a lot more talent this year. Many predicted us to win the NC. We were ranked #2 preseason. '06-'07 we knew we would be mediocre. Both years, we locked up a bowl game before the last game of the season. This is the worst (and certainly the most disappointing) season I remember in my life.

Yeah, he's gone. That call-in show was so fake. Earlier in the week I still thought he would stay. I don't see how now.

Wow and what is with the fat a$$ mustache boy pushing the guy as he leaves. Seriously is this the USSR or something. I guess at this point even if JF and everyone else wanted him to stay that is not going to be possible. Kind of sad how a guy with so much given to him can be such a d&&&

You know...we may have dodged a bullet with this one. What if he turns out to like Petrino and has a midlife crises. He’s a few years out from his divorce. He might be ready to act a fool for a few years.

So, if it is done, question turns to who would be the better interim head coach for a bowl game, Charles Kelly or Rick Trickett? With CK, we would obviously need an additional person to hold him back by the belt. With Trickett, we would need somebody with a loud horn to mask the F-bombs. My money is on the dark horse, Vic Viloria. He won't run out on the field, he will just jump in place swinging a towel. He won't drop F-bombs every other second, but there may be excessive chest bumping.

Don't know if this is true or not, but coaches at top tier programs shouldn't get raises for going 6-6, and I'm a Jimbo defender.

I vote for Viloria, but only if he does the halftime chat in full sweat, shades on Macho Man style.
