New Footie Thread - Sept 2019

I’m in Charlotte at the moment. I’m driving home to Tallahassee tomorrow (7.5 hours) at 4 AM to make it in time for kickoff!

COYG!

Will try to stop by more often. WOW the Community Shield is tomorrow already? Guess the planned yard work is AM instead of PM. LOL

Yes it is, and a win there over the Peasants would be a great start to the season, even if it is a glorified exhibition nowadays. COYG!

I'm following the match online. Where's Willian?? I don't see him in the line-up.

Very nice goal by Aubameyang! The Arsenal kits are just awful and the font of letters and numbers? Are those the new Away kits?

What a finish. Auba playing like a guy about to sign a huge contract. And any type of win over the Scouse Peasants in wonderful. Beginning to look like Arteta has The Arsenal headed in the right direction.

And Tim, yes, those are the new away kits. Not a fan, either, but will have to order one anyway. Because, you know, it's still The Arsenal.

Congrats Arsenal! Always enjoy watching Herr Kloppo lose!
We'll see if there's any momentum from winning the F.A. Cup and then the C.S. that carries over into League play.

...And I've still yet to get an answer to my Willian query...Is he hurt or not officially yet on the active roster??

An excellent question, Liz. Lemme see if I can find out for you (and me)

From what I can gather, it appears that they just wanted to delay his debut for a more meaningful spot. (If that's the case, I think they missed the opportunity to work him in in a competitive but not high-pressure environment...But what do I know.)

Exactly. Mkhi looked good on paper, but was pretty much a bust, especially in light of the Sanchez debacle

I'm not worried about Auba, though; not even The Arsenal would be stupid enough to re-up him after his performance in the Shield Saturday.

Now, if they could only find someone to take Ozil's wages off the books......

I don't think it is a matter of finding someone to take Ozil's wages off the books, I think it is convincing Ozil to go elsewhere to play. I have read of a few different places willing to take his wages, but he refuses to leave London. From my understanding, he would rather just sit at home and collect his paycheck for another year instead of actually going elsewhere and playing to earn the money.

I think the main option Arsenal have is to just buy out his contract. The issue with that is they would be paying 100% of his salary up front to make him go away instead of just stretching the payments over the year.

I believe they offered to pay him to leave, but if he finds another team they would deduct his new wages from what they pay him. Essentially he still gets paid the same, but only a portion would come from Arsenal. However, he refused.

What a pathetic tool he is, then. And you can only blame The Arsenal for giving him such a contract in the first place.

However, the signing of Gabriel today, with Ceballos getting another loan with us for another season, softens the blow somewhat.

Excellent start for the Gunners. 3-0 to The Arsenal over the Cottagers. Willian looks like a bigger steal than even I thought he would be. His corner to Gabriel (who also shined today) was beautiful.

I'm well aware of you Arsenal fans' fondness for Leeds... They're making quite a return to the EPL today against the reigning champs!

I'm the rare Gooner who actually can tolerate Leeds. A lot of the vitriol dates back to before I became a devout fan of the sport. I save my "fondness" for Hotpants and the Peasants. But yes, I don't see Leeds having any problem with staying up after that match today. There's no quit in them, that's for sure.

Most of you on here aren't Chelsea fans, but even you must appreciate that they are a popular team here stateside. Why in blazers then is NBC not carrying our opening game today on any of its networks??

Guess I can watch it online, but this is ridiculous.

It's really not? Not even Peacock? That's madness...and maddening!

I thought the massive cross-field ball that he played to Aubameyang was indicative of something we've been missing for a long time. No one ever plays those big switches for us (well...Xhaka does occassionally...but not nearly enough).

Oh gotcha...

Sadly, I think it's the first of many times NBC will try to force us over to Peacock this year.
Just reluctantly signed up for free..Sure I'll get constant prompts to upgrade.

Actually, it turns out I'd have to give them my credit card info and start paying following "free 7-day trial". Screw that...I'll just use Total Sportek. I have two ad blockers!

Really? I just signed up for free just now...no prompt for credit card or free trial.

Did some research...if you have Xfinity or Cox Cable, Peacock Premium is free. You just have to link your accounts (easiest to do from a laptop/desktop). I just did it.

Yeah, saw the links for that, but we have Direct.

Nice win today, Chelsea fans.
Missed most of it...Totalsportek was spotty. Saw it was the holdovers scoring all of the goals.

Was looking at the table... Arsenal and Leicester won by identical 3-0 scores, so why are they not listed as tied for first?

Check this craziness out: This Sunday's Chelsea/Liverpool match is on Peacock!
