Cutting my losses

I've been a season ticket holder for 25 years & I came to the conclusion early in this season that I needed to cut my losses with this team until they earn me investing more of my valuable time above and beyond my season tickets and booster support. Couldn't make BC. Skipped Memphis to celebrate a friend's Bday & was glad I didn't waste time watching one play of that game. Watched Cal on TV and walked away feeling that Cal should've won that game. Watched every miserable play of the SMU, Clemson & Duke games. I sold my $125 Clemson tix for $35 each which was fair market value & a damning indicator of how bad this team is. Watched the 1st quarter of the Miami game before going out to dinner with friends during the freaking FSU/Miami game which was unthinkable until this year! This will be the first season in over 30 years I don't see the Noles play in person. I expect the UNC game to resemble 2 one legged men in an ass kicking contest. I can't stand to go watch this team ek out a win against Charleston Southern. This team doesn't warrant me dealing with Thanksgiving traffic to watch them trip over their shoe laces & lose to a mediocre Gator team in Doak.

It saddens me to say I can't wait for this miserable season to be over. These upperclassmen are my least favorite group of players to ever wear the garnett & gold save a handful (Toafili, Douglas, Fitz & Mastramano). There is no leadership, pride or sense of duty on this team. The Oline is a disaster in both run and pass blocking, WRs are going to kill multiple drives a game and it doesn't matter who you put behind that line at QB, they can't be successful under these circumstances. We all know (as do all of our opponents) that this offense is not going to score more than 17 points, lose field position and continually put a mediocre defense in horrible positions every game. The front 7 on defense have been disappointing most of the year with some individuals flashing here and there. It is clear this coaching staff has no answers and is along for the ride. I don't need to hear anymore coach speak or platitudes from CNM! We all know what he is going to say and it doesn't match up with the receipts. I feel bad for the reporters that have to sit in those press conferences and listen to the same coach speak week in and week out. IMO this is the worst FSU team of all time because none has done less, with more "talent" on paper than this group of upperclassmen and Coaches.

This feels like we're all passengers on a plane that is going down, out of control and we are just waiting in what seems to be an eternity for impact with the ground. We also know that CNM is not going any where for multiple years so we're stuck with him trying to rebuild this program for a 2nd time in 5 years. I've been a big supporter of his despite some questionable calls in his first 4 years that I chalked up to learning moments for a coach coming from G5. Is it possible that when the smoke settles after the transfer portal & ESD, that CNM will be starting from a worse position than when he first arrived here 5 years ago? After last year's success that was unthinkable but now a possibility. Many of the most talented returning players are surely going to be taking a serious look at weather they should stick around for a 2nd attempt at rebuilding this program or eject and find a better situation. If Brock or Luke were my son's I would have SERIOUS concerns about what FSU is going to trot out in front of them next year. I don't see how this isn't a multi year rebuild that will be even harder now that the country has watched CNM's program collapse after a 13-1 season. I'll always be a Nole fan but also try to be objective. I have settled in mentally for what I anticipate to be a tough handful of years which is so disappointing after the success we watched the last 2 seasons. God Bless you guys still making the long drive & investing more of your hard earned money to go to Tallahassee & watch this clown show. Go Noles but keeping it real.

Football Recruiting The latest notes on FSU commits on 'flip watch'

All is quiet on the western front as of late but I spent today trying to get some updates some of the Florida State commits that could be on 'flip watch'.

First, CJ Wiley:

A couple of things to note here. As you likely would have seen, Mike Norvell visited Wiley during his game a few weeks ago during the bye week. That in-person visit was well received. Wiley continues to remain very guarded about his recruitment. He doesn't say much to anyone. Learned this morning that Wiley does not currently plan to be back on Florida State's campus before signing day. Things may change but as it stands right now, he isn't expected to be back. The key date to watch is Nov. 17th. If Georgia is to get him back on campus again, it would likely be for that game against Tennessee. Nov. 17th is also FSU's final open week of the season, so even if they wanted to play defense that weekend, they couldn't. Right now, I perceive this to be a two-team race despite a lot of programs pursuing Wiley. Georgia really wants a star-receiver that can come in and contribute immediately. It's a bit of a mixed bag of opinion on who has the edge right now.

Chase Loftin:

We reported earlier this season that Loftin was not planning on taking any visits to other programs but was quietly looking at his other options after the Seminoles start to the season. The remains to be the case but the early playing time and success of FSU's freshman tight ends have definitely helped things improve here. Talked to Loftin this morning and he still does plan on visiting FSU but he hasn't found a good time to do it yet. Nebraska is still chipping away here with Loftin but the fact that he hasn't visited there yet given the Huskers success this season is promising. I don't believe him to be on 'flip watch' in the traditional sense until he sets a visit date, but in terms of commitments, he lives the furthest away among commitments and its obviously been tricky getting him on campus. There are a couple of programs trying to get him to visit, one being the Huskers, the other I believe to be TAMU. Nothing has been set yet.

Kevin Wynn:

Wynn has visited USC and Texas in back to back weekends. Have been told that the USC visit, he went with a HS teammate of his that flipped to the Trojans. I'm not convinced that the Trojans are becoming a serious player here as others reports have suggested. I've been told that South Carolina's coaching staff will be visiting him for his game this Friday. South Carolina was one of the programs that he took an official visit to over the summer. Right now, I think Wynn is just going to games and making sure that he made the right decision in his recruitment. The word that was passed along to me was 'a little confused' with all the visits. Will update you if I learn something new regarding Wynn.

Javion Hilson:

I know he is not a commit, but do have a note on Hilson. Texas have been the perceived leader since Hilson decommitted, but as of this morning, they are now the team to beat according to national analyst Adam Gorney and that falls in line with what we've been hearing. As you may have seen over the last two days, Hilson will now not be returning to FSU for the Florida game despite his comments that he was planning to come back for that game when I talked to him following Clemson. He will instead take an official visit to Texas A&M and even then he might be trying to see Texas again that weekend. It was looking hopeful for a second that FSU might have a real shot to reel Hilson back in but if he follows through with the current set of plans, the outlook returns to the mean of being very unlikely. That said, I'm not entirely ruling out FSU yet. His comments suggest to me someone who is leaving the door open for all interested parties to make a bid.

Football Takeaways from FSU's loss at Miami

MIAMI GARDENS — Florida State tried the limited options it had. But after using quarterbacks Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek, playing without starting left tackle Darius Washington, going for it repeatedly on fourth downs, the result was humbling and familiar:

The Seminoles’ offense doesn’t have the rhythm in the passing game or the protection up front to be efficient, not nearly enough against No. 6 Miami and Cam Ward. FSU had 248 offensive yards, extending the streak to 11 games without 300 or more yards of offense.

Mark Fletcher and Damien Martinez had touchdown runs and Miami connected on three field-goal attempts in a controlling 36-14 win over FSU on Saturday. It also continued a streak of seven straight games of scoring in the teens.

Golf Lottie Woad helps FSU women to team title at Landfall Tradition

FSU sports information:

Junior All-American Lottie Woad finished in a tie for first place in the individual standings, and the No. 11 ranked Florida State Women’s Golf Team won the team title of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall on championship Sunday. The Seminoles defeated Duke by one stroke and North Carolina by three strokes to win the event for the first time and claim their first championship[p of the fall 2024 season.

Woad claimed her fourth career individual championship as she finished in a tie for the individual championship with Lauren Olivares Leon of NC State. The world’s top ranked amateur player carded a 73 in the final round to finish with a 6 under par total of 210. She carded a score of 65 in the first round to tie the school record for a single round score and closed with scores 72 in the second round and 73 in the third round.

Woad has now won individual championships at the fall 2022 Ivy League Intercollegiate, the spring 2023 Florida State Match Up, the fall 2023 ANNIKA Intercollegiate, and now the Fall 2024 Landfall Tradition.

Woad has been the world’s No. 1 ranked amateur player for 13 consecutive weeks – since July 31, 2024.

“Today was the toughest of the three days of the tournament because of the cold, rain and wind,” said FSU coach Amy Bond. “It was a good battle back and forth (with Duke) and it was a matter of which team could make one more par.

“We knew today was going to be a challenge and we talked about being patient after our round yesterday. We gained some experience playing in the wind last week at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup and we show we learned from that experience. I’m very, very proud of all five girls.”

Woad was her usual consistent self as she finished her fourth individual title with a 73 in the final round of the championship. She totaled one birdie and 16 holes scored at par, and was never more than one stroke over par during the final round. Woad carded 12 birdies during the event – tied for the fourth-highest total of the 96 golfers in the field.

Freshman Sophia Fullbrook finished in a tie for 22nd place in the individual standings with a three round total of 2 over par 218. She carded two third round birdies to earn her third career top 25 finish.

Senior Kayla Williams earned her sixth career top 25 finish as she carded a 76 in the final round to close with a three round total of 3 over par 219. She carded scores of 72-71-76 and has now earned consecutive top 25 finishes for the first time in her career. Williams finished in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings at last week’s Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

Freshman Christina Surcey finished in a tie for 27th place in the individual standings as she closed with a 76 for a 4 over par total of 220. She opened the event with a 70 and totaled a 144 for the first 36 holes of the championship. Surcey carded three birdies on her final seven holes to help the Seminoles claim the team championship on the final day of the event.

Freshman Alexandra Gazzoli played the best round of the day for the Seminoles as she carded a 1 under par score of 71. She finished with a three round total of 6 over par 222. Gazzoli closed the event at 3 under par on her final 15 holes with three birdies, no bogeys, and 15 consecutive holes played at par or better.

The championship capped a splendid fall season as the Seminoles earned four top four team finishes – first at the Landfall Tradition, second at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, third at the Schooner Fall Classic, and tied for fourth at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

Florida State opens it spring season at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) and play host to the Florida State Match Up at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club (March 21-23) in Tallahassee.

Clanton tied for 14th, scoring 6-over ahead of Bigham at 10-over.

Tennis Rusher makes semis of Bedford Cup

FSU sports information:

Azariah Rusher recorded a semifinals appearance at the 2024 Bedford Cup on Sunday morning.

Florida State sent four players to the Bedford Cup with Rusher, Jan Sebesta, Justin Lyons, and Elias Sumann representing the Seminoles in Gainesville.

Rusher began the tournament as a seeded player and qualified for a first round bye. He navigated through a tight second round match that saw him win a 6-3 first set before dropping the following frame by the same margin. Rusher outlasted Stetson senior Lucas Olivier in the final frame 7-5 and booked his spot in the quarterfinals.

Rusher played his way and defeated Miami’s Mehdi Sadaoui in straight sets to meet the No. 1 seed and No. 58 player in the nation, Antonio Prat. After dropping the first set 6-4, Rusher dominated the second set with a 6-2 frame to set up the third and final set to advance to the finals. Prat was able to work through and defeated Rusher and went on to win the singles orange draw.

All four Seminoles earned victories in the singles tournament. Lyons outclassed Florida Gulf Coast senior Guglielmo Stefanacci in the first round, dropping just three games in the entire match. Sebesta defeated Miami sophomore Leonardo Dal Boni in straight-sets while Sumann overcame a set deficit to defeat Florida sophomore Mattia Akcan in three grueling sets.

In the doubles tournament, the freshmen pairing of Sebesta and Sumann defeated Florida’s duo of Akcan and Francesco Cordove by four games to reach the second round where they ran into Stetson’s seeded pair and fell in the match tiebreaker. Rusher and Lyons dropped in the Round of 32.

Florida State will return home to host the ITA South Sectional Championship from November 7-10. The matches will be played at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center, draws and schedules will be announced as the tournament approaches.

FSU volleyball sweeps Duke

FSU sports information:

The No. 19 Florida State volleyball team (15-5, 7-3) bounced back in a big way on Sunday afternoon as they put together one of its most complete performances of the year in a sweep (25-14, 25-11, 25-13) over Duke (8-13, 4-6) at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., on Sunday afternoon. FSU has now won 12 consecutive matches over the Blue Devils dating back to 2015. The Seminoles became just the third team this season to sweep Duke in Durham.

There was very little drama from start to finish on Sunday afternoon as the Noles jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in set one. Duke scored five out of the next seven points, but the Seminoles responded with a 12-2 run to put the set out of reach as they cruised to a 25-14 victory.

The two teams went back and forth early in set two, but the Noles used a huge run again in the middle of the set to take a 20-8 lead and went on to win the set 25-11 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Seminoles found themselves in a 5-1 hole early in set three but quickly erased the deficit with a 15-2 run to flip the script and take a 16-7 lead. The Noles went on to close out the match with a 25-13 win in set three.

FSU's defense was phenomenal as they forced 23 errors by the Blue Devils and held Duke to just 22 kills. It was the first time that FSU has held a team to a negative hitting percentage since Feb. 26, 2020, against Troy.

On the offensive side, the Seminoles hit .353 and were led by Audrey Koenig and Taylor Head who recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Head recorded her fifth double double in the last six games as she had a game-high 15 digs to go along with her 11 kills. Koenig has now recorded 10 or more kills in 17 consecutive games which is the longest streak of her career. Kenna Phelan led the way with 20 assists.

The Seminoles will return home for four consecutive matches starting on Friday against Cal. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. on ACCNX.

Football Column: Pendulum swing weighing on FSU as state rival Miami is on top

MIAMI GARDENS — We’ve seen just about everything in the Florida State-Miami rivalry, from Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks leading shootouts to elite defenses filled with first-round picks to missed kicks.

On Saturday, we saw something that was expected but also stunning at the same time. Yes, Miami won convincingly in a game where FSU was competitive (at times) on the field but not competitive on the scoreboard.

But we saw a bizarre pendulum swing in just under two years: One that has taken fans of both schools on quite the ride, from a 45-3 FSU win over Miami in November 2022 to a 36-14 Seminoles loss on Saturday night. One win says plenty about how the Seminoles were climbing, one speaks volumes about the backwards and rapid descent.

Football FSU opens as slight home underdog for Week 10 matchup vs. North Carolina

It would appear that the betting markets have given up much of their remaining faith in the Florida State football team.

The betting line for FSU’s (1-7, 1-6 in ACC) Week 10 matchup vs. North Carolina (4-4, 1-3) was released Sunday afternoon.

Circa Sports has FSU as a three-point underdog to the Tar Heels for the 3:30 p.m. game next Saturday (ACC Network).

FSU holds a 17-3-1 lead in the all-time series vs. UNC, winning the last two games in the series in 2020 and 2021.

UNC head coach Mack Brown, in what may be his final season, will be looking to finally win a game against his alma mater. Brown played running back at FSU in 1972-73 and got his coaching career started at FSU as a student when his playing career was derailed by injuries.

Some thoughts

QB1 in 25' is not on this roster:
Brock isn't the guy. Luke might be, but may not be ready before 26'. Mike had better hit a homerun this time in the Portal. He simply can't have another bad season.

Starting Early at OG is a head scratcher:
He showed to be a competent RT. Plug and play OT's are very rare in the portal. We can't enter spring ball with all green OT, we just can't.

In my 29 years following FSU football, I can't recall any of them where there was even close to this many drive killing, touchdown negating dropped passes.

My hope for the UM game:
We see that all the young guys returning next year show fight/don't quit/are still bought in for 4th qtrs.

Best case for this season is 4-8. We most likely go either 2-10 or 3-9. For the love of god why aren't we going full youth movement? Optics? :D :D Seriously, what is the downside at this point? That some of the Jr.'s who stink might transfer?

Football FSU, Mike Norvell have found themselves in quite a quarterback quandary

There's no easy solution for what FSU should do going forward at quarterback the rest of the season. Should Mike Norvell pick either Brock Glenn or Luke Kromenhoek based on a small sample size or continue splitting reps between them at the risk of potentially losing both of them?

What in the world???

Why would you put Brock back in??? You have to let Luke continue to grow. It does NO good to put Brock in. This is the worst coached team in college football. From top to bottom. There is no reason to not fire coaches during the season now. They are clearly not interested in developing this team. Embarrassing!!! This does not help us keep next years team together.
