We are talking about the FedExCup Playoffs.
The first leg of the Playoffs kicks off this week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind with the top 70 in the standings ready to ride over the next three weeks to the season-ending TOUR Championship.
The Playoffs start in Memphis, Tennessee, before heading to the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado. Just the top 50 in the FedExCup standings will earn their way into the second Playoffs event. Only the top 30 will qualify for the season finale at the restored East Lake Golf Club near Atlanta.

The 2024 PGA TOUR season has been all Scottie Scheffler, all the time, and now Scheffler – with gold around his neck from the Paris Olympics – will head into the Playoffs trying to win his first FedExCup title. To do it (with 2,000 FedExCup Points on the line for the winner), he’ll have to top the best of the best on the PGA TOUR this season.
Here’s everything else you need to know as the TOUR heads to Memphis.
FIELD NOTES: Scheffler returns to action on the PGA TOUR after his dramatic come-from-behind triumph at the Olympics at Le Golf National. Scheffler’s gold medal in Paris is now paired with his six TOUR titles this season. He leads the FedExCup standings by nearly 2,000 points over Xander Schauffele. With 2,000 points available to the winner of this week and next week’s BMW Championship, anything can happen ... Viktor Hovland’s run at defending his FedExCup title begins now. Hovland enters the first week of the Playoffs at No. 57 in the standings. Surprisingly, Hovland has just one top-10 finish this season, a solo third at the PGA Championship … Three-time FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy is keen to make another run at the PGA TOUR’s biggest prize. McIlroy has two wins this season but called himself “golf’s nearly man” after the close call at the U.S. Open and a fifth at the Olympics … Ludvig Åberg (No. 6) and Shane Lowry (No. 10) are in prime positions to make their first TOUR Championship … Patrick Cantlay starts the FedExCup Playoffs at No. 11 in the standings. He’s No. 39 in the standings heading into Memphis … Nick Dunlap did not receive any FedExCup Points for winning The American Express as an amateur, but winning the Barracuda Championship zipped him into the top 70 and a FedExCup Playoffs debut for the recently minted pro … One underlying story to watch out for over the next three weeks is the Presidents Cup standings. The six captain’s picks for both Jim Furyk’s American side and Mike Weir’s Internationals will be made at the conclusion of the TOUR Championship. The six automatic qualifiers will be determined after the BMW Championship.
COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: The Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 is complete for 2024, with Scheffler finishing in the No. 1 spot … The rest of the TOUR TOP 10 unfolded as such: Schauffele (No. 2), McIlroy (No. 3), Collin Morikawa (No. 4), Wyndham Clark (No. 5), Åberg (No. 6), Sahith Theegala (No. 7), Hideki Matsuyama (No. 8), Sungjae Im (No. 9) and Lowry (No. 10).
FEDEXCUP BUBBLE UPDATES: The top 50 in the standings at the conclusion of the FedEx St. Jude Championship will compete at the BMW Championship, and then just the top 30 will tee it up at the TOUR Championship … Victor Perez, after a tremendous run at the Olympics in his home country, shot four rounds in the 60s at the Wyndham Championship to hold onto the No. 70 spot and earn the final FedExCup Playoffs spot. For the second time in FedExCup Playoffs history – and first since 2013 – no player moved in from outside the FedExCup cut-off number and went on to qualify at the Wyndham Championship finale ... Only the top 50 in the standings will move on to the BMW Championship … Jake Knapp, who won the Mexico Open at Vidanta, is No. 50 … Harris English is No. 51. English has just two top-10s this season but has a solid record at TPC Southwind, with a victory in 2013 and a fourth-place finish in 2021 … Nick Taylor sits at No. 52. The Canadian won the WM Phoenix Open earlier in the year but has had a cold run since. The top 125 on the FedExCup standings will keep exempt status for 2025, but that will be finalized after the FedExCup Fall which concludes at The RSM Classic in November.

COURSE: TPC Southwind, par 70, 7,243 yards. The Ron Prichard design was established in 1988, with Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller as player consultants. The course boasts numerous lakes, streams and ponds and features the added charm of two grain silos and a windmill – remnants of a dairy farm formerly on site. Last spring the course made a full conversion to Zeon zoysiagrass while some fairways were re-contoured after new internal drainage was added.

LAST TIME: Glover won in back-to-back weeks – after capturing the Wyndham Championship the week prior – topping Cantlay in a playoff in Memphis. Glover and Cantlay, who shot the round of the day in Sunday’s finale, finished at 15 under for the week. But Cantlay – who was first up in the sudden-death playoff – knocked his tee shot in the water after a nasty kick. Glover knocked his birdie try to a foot but Cantlay couldn’t convert his par – and Glover was a winner, again, on the PGA TOUR. McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood finished tied for third at 14 under, one back of the playoff. Fleetwood had a 19-foot birdie to get to 15 under but it just slid past.

FSU could have as many 40-plus players move on. With only 13 players committed that would leave potentially 27 more openings after the season to get to 85. They could need more if the number moves to 105. Do you keep guys now who may not play and are on the roster? This is a question that will need to be answered. FSU can't go into the portal to try and get to 105 if they have 40-50 openings after the season.

OPTIONS IN RECRUITING

1. RB Byron Louis - American Heritage Plantation - This recruitment has leaned FSU during the entire recruiting process. If there is a sure thing in recruiting this is as close to one as you will get. I am leaning towards the Seminoles. FSU needs to get him in the boat sooner rather than later.

2. RB Ousmane Kromah - Lee County - I have never really been convinced that he would be a Seminole. He is making a decision before Louis. Auburn and Georgia are both teams that FSU has to beat out for Kromah. It just seems like these types of kids go elsewhere. FSU has gotten him on campus a few times. FSU needs some momentum in recruiting and this kid would give it to them.

3. OL Daniel Pierre Louis - Seminole Ridge - FSU went from potentially landing Ziyare Addison and Josh Petty along with Peyton Joseph. Pierre is an under-the-radar prospect who right now is on FSU's radar. Do they save this spot for the portal? As we stated that 105 limit is going to force you to take more players like this come NSD.

4. OL Sean Poret (Riverwood 6-5, 270) - FSU needs tackles and Poret is the best on their board. He is committed to USF. The Seminoles need tackles. Losing Petty was huge.

5. DL Jalen Wiggins (Tallahassee Rickards, 6-4, 255) - I still feel FSU will land Wiggins. The local star is committed to UF but this one is unstable as far as commitments go. Wiggins is someone FSU can recruit throughout the process and see how the season goes for UF.

6. WR Joshua Moore (West Broward, 6-4, 200) - From what I was told, Moore is still keeping his options open. I feel that he is someone FSU must stay on as CJ Wiley, while committed, is still talking to other programs. Moore is not to the level of CJ but is a very good insurance policy just in case you have to break the glass.

7. LB TJ Alford - Vero Beach, 6-2, 210 - Alford is committed to Ohio State. I still feel FSU has a legit shot at flipping him. He is a player at a position of need.

8 LB Ty Jackson - Seminole Ridge, 6-2, 200 - This will go down as one of the weirdest recruitments in modern history. He does not take visits. He does not go to camps. He did not go to any combines this spring. Jackson is not easy to get a hold of. He has kept his recruitment in the dark.

9. LB Tavion Wallace - Wayne County, 6-2, 215 - He committed to an Arkansas program that is going to end up hiring a new coach come week 4-5. Will he stay committed to the Hogs?

10. CB Onis Konanbanny - Heathwood - 6-1, 190 - This is another two-team battle - Tennessee vs. FSU. Onis is a four-star so the value of his NIL should not be big. He is an underrated prospect, one who should probably be ranked higher.

11. DB Ladarian Clardy - Pensacola Escambia, 5-11, 175 - Clardy is one of the highest-rated recruits left on FSU board. Turn on his film and this kid is a playmaker. Look for Clardy to make an impact early in his college career. One of the better athletes you will watch on film.

FSU is Boulware's first known Power 4 offer.

2025 DB Ladarian Clardy has moved his commitment date back to September 21st. He has narrowed down his list FSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Washington and UCF. This a player FSU might have gotten a commitment from if they had offered him earlier than they did, May 7th of this year. By that time all the schools left in his recruitment had already extended offers.

My understanding is that FSU had questions about his size, which is the reason they delayed the offer until the spring practice period in May. His film suggests, in my opinion, that he should have been offered sooner. It is also my understanding that because FSU was one of Clardy's dream schools that NIL wouldn't play as much of a factor as it seems to be. Granted, no one knows how big an influence it will play, but a source has told me FSU thought the fact he grew wanting to go to be a Seminole might lessen its influence. Ole Miss looks to be the leader at this point, but the delay might help FSU.

FSU released its depth chart for the season opener vs. Georgia Tech this afternoon.

QB-DJU is named as the starter over Brock Glenn, followed by Luke Kromenhoek. It may take some time once they get into the season, but I do think Norvell will figure out how to best use DJU's skill set in his offense and be solid. I didn't think any of the QBs had a great camps, so it makes sense to go with the guy who has played more football. There are some questions on the passing game heading into the season and its not all about the WRs. I thought there would be more separation in this battle and think it will be interesting to see how Mike tries to get Glenn some in-season experience. I think it has to be put in meaningful situations during games and just not mopping up at the end of a couple of blowouts.

RB-Norvell for whatever reason list 12 starters on offense with the "extra" position being a second running back slot and we are likely to see some 20, 21 and 22 personnel groupings this season. That being said the running back room looks to be in really good shape. Williams and Toafili are listed as the two starters and would be the first two guys in the rotation in 11 and 12-personnel packages. Lucas is the backup behind Toafili and those two will be used in the slot receiver spot to which may allow for Caziah Holmes, Sam Singleton and Kam Davis to get some reps in the backfield. Either way you stack it up, FSU should be deep at RB. All flashed during camp. I think Lucas could be in line for a really big season with Norvell's ability to be creative and find mismatches.

WR-Benson, Douglas and Brown are listed as the starter with Poiter or Williams behind Benson, Spann behind Douglas and Williamson or McCoy behind Brown. This group is a work in progress and is in need of some serious in-season development. There is potential there and Benson is a guy that has the speed to off the top of the defense and Douglas is a proven commodity in the offense but as a whole this group didn't have a great camp. I think you will see a lot of WR combinations early as they try to find three guys who can carry the load and catch the ball consistently.

TE-Morlock is the clear starter here and anything you can get out of the any of the backups is a plus, Courtney and West or listed as co-backups and Thomas and Williams are not listed on the depth chart. FSU really needs Morlock to stay healthy.

LT-Washington backed up by Simmons. I think Darius has had a great camp and Simmons continues to improve. I do wonder if they would shuffle someone out to LT if Darius where to have to fill in at another spot or miss time.

LG-Leonard has been good as a run blocker. He is a mauler and is tough. Will help the run game but his weakness if pass protection. I think he was a solid take in the portal after watching him in camp. Estes is listed behind him, and he did finish camp strong.

C-Maurice Smith is a fixture here and will be as long as he stays healthy. Otto and Rizy or listed as co-backups to Smith and who plays behind Smith each week will be determined by how they perform in practice.

RG-Jones and Ferguson are listed as co-starters here so there is not much seperation between the two although I thought Jones had the stronger camp. Otto has worked some at guard in camp, so don't be surprised to see him work his way into the rotation here.

RT-Byers and Scott are listed as the co-starters here with Early behind them. I haven't seen anything that says Byers won't be the starter and this is another spot that you could see Otto battle for playing time after practicing at three different positions during camp.

When Darius Washington and Maurice Smith were recruits, they talked about coming to FSU and turning the offensive line and program around.

Along with Robert Scott, that's just what these vets have done, flipping the FSU OL narrative from national laughingstock to major asset and playing big roles in returning the Seminoles to their former glory.

1. vs Louisville: 19-32, 313 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

2. vs Miami: 12-25, 151 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions

3. vs Clemson: 13-31, 129 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions

4. vs Georgia: 11-20, 158 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions

They return a lot on offense, so the assumption is that the offense as a whole would improve based upon the gain in experience.

Hopefully we can get two interceptions against him, with our defense as a whole, I think that is entirely possible.

I just can't help but feel we will be playing with a lead and GT will have to get a little uncomfortable trying to catch up. The cold and wet environment should be an advantage to FSU as I would think we have the better running game and way better defense.

Florida State senior midfielder Taylor Huff was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, her second straight season beginning with the ACC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Huff had a dream start to her 2024 campaign, recording three assists in the opening match at South Florida before having her best-ever performance statistically versus North Florida. She scored three goals with an assist in 75 minutes to record her first-ever hat trick in the 10-0 victory over the Ospreys.

Huff’s seven points against North Florida were one point shy of FSU’s single-game record, and the 10 goals was the team’s first double-digit scoring performance since 2007.

The senior received several preseason accolades, including being named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Best XI First Team, and MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

The Seminoles will continue their homestand with a Thursday evening match with Rice at 7 p.m. on the ACC Network.

Tough for them, I feel badly for the kid. Apparently, Brent Key announced today (Tuesday) Brett Seither will miss the season with a knee injury. Looks like he is a R-Sr averaging 14.4 ypc and is a big target at 6-5" 240lbs.

A common denominator for Haynes King's career: The quarterback's connection to an FSU legend (Chris Weinke), a former FSU coach (Jimbo Fisher) and the current FSU coach (Mike Norvell). All of them have been intrigued by King.

Norvell was Memphis’ coach when he saw King’s skill set early at Longview (Texas) High, where he developed into a three-star quarterback and had 30 touchdowns (20 passing, 10 rushing) in his senior season in 2019.

“We did a satellite camp in East Texas, maybe going into his junior year,” Norvell said. “We offered him that night. I’ve known his dad since I got into coaching. John King is one of the great coaches in the state of Texas. So much respect for him. And a lot of respect for the young man.

"You see his growth throughout his career. I think he’ll be one of the best quarterbacks in the country.”
